Did you even read the article?

The NGP is tapping into a market far larger than even a Nintendo game can dream.  Iphone type games, and this may be one of the single biggest reasons that Nintendo should be very worried about the NGP in my opinion.

It may tap into that market somewhat but I wouldn't say that they could really take advantage of it considering the size of the NGP, intimidation of non 18-35 y/o gamers due to formfactor and the unknown cost in comparison to the iTouch which is the best current platform to play those games.

The bid differenct though is the whole connectivity environment this thing is bringing with it. No dedicated handheld console in history has brought with it the sheer amount of online features and person to person connectivity that this machine is bringing and I think ALOT of people are overlooking that.

How Sony Can Make Their Next Gen Portable A Must Buy?

It's simple: New IPs that can sell more the than 20 million with one single game. I mean Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear and even Gran Turismo (combined!?) aren't capable to move as much hardware as a simple 2D Mario (you just have to look at the PSP and DS software sales to see it). So instead of PS3-like games the NGP will need some DS/Wii-like games in order to become a must buy for a wide audience.

I don't think companies like Firemint and Gameloft will be able to develop big hits to increase the sales of the NGP. They will probably develop multi-platform games for MGP/iPhone/3DS/Android.

And by the way, I'm worried about the 3DS sales as well... I think DS > 3DS and PSP > NGP in sales the next gen, but this is subject for another thread.

You've changed tack :/

Sure no console has bought those features but like with the PS3 / 360 / Wii comparison in terms of overall features it is really hard to anticipate ahead of time how meaningful they are and what other factors may over-ride them.

I just don't personally, and this is entirely opinion based, see what the 3DS can offer in terms of competition with the NGP outside of its 1st party lineup and the 3D effect of the screen.  If it truley is revolutionary and amazing I think it may seal the deal for Nintendo but I think moveing more to an Iphone type set up will be a much larger deal.  Just imagine the impact of a game the equivalent of Words With Friends but on the NGP would mean for sales with its robust online 3G component.

Price however as always will be King.  And again this is all opinion and not meant as a knock towards Nintendo AT ALL, just personally if the NGP delivers what its promising to me all hype was killed for the 3DS, and I planned on buying it at launch.

Conegamer - I say that the PS3 will beat the DS next week in Japan  (for hardware sales) Forfeit is control over others avatar for 1 week.

One simple answer: be affordable.

More than $250 is not affordable for a handheld and even even $250 isn't reasonable.  It's a great little machine and I'm actually excited about it, it's just a hand held shouldn't quite cost that much.  If Sony can make the price good, then it will be a smash.

NGP will have to have good games at a good price, problem is, with all the stuff they are shoving into it, it'll be hard to price below $300 as they will lose a ton of money on it, and if its too high, it'll be n trouble due to price and more established alternatives

Basically this.  Everything I've said was taking into account there will be a model for $299 or less.  If the cheapest entry point for the handled is over $300 it will be completly dominated by the 3DS.  I'm just counting on Sony learning their lesson from this gen and launching a cheaper model.

So Sony will take a big loss on the NGP?
