Thanks for pointing that out because so many here seem to think that EDD is just the xbox. Wake up.

The EDD profit IS NOT XBOX360 PROFIT. The EDD consist of PC games and online services,  Office, Windows Mobile and a whole lot of other stuff.

We have no idea of how much the x360 (and related items like kinect)  made on it's own and MS didn't say.

Great quarter result for MS regardless.

EDD consists of Xbox business in its entirety which includes Xbox Live. Other online services is in the online services division.

EDD consists of Windows Mobile which loses money (even before iPhone, Windows Mobile only had 1 profitable year)

EDD consists of the Marketing and Sales related expenses for retails sales of Office, Windows, etc.

EDD consists of other incubator products (not profitable) such as Microsoft Surface.



Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Do you know prior to iPhone that Windows Mobile business only had 1 profitable year?  Windows Mobile used to be in a division all by itself.

IF they are talking about HW. That means they expect

Q3 (Q1 2011) - 50% up is 2.3 mill, up 750k from 1.5 mill last year.

BUT, this is where it goes off ... they expect overall 40% increase in 2011 over 2010.

Fiscal year 2010 was 10.3 mill, so 40% up would be up 4.1 million, to 14.4 million. So they expect 2.3 next Q and 3.0 mill the following Q.

Edit - got my figures wrong, correct. Seems logical now.

Look, the breakdown of the EDD division has been given multiple times (basically whenever a cluessless post like yours had shown up). Instead of typing complete nonsense, why don't you do the reasearch? Start with MS' own previous report which explicitly accompanied a mention that almost all parts of the EDD division were profitable...

Nobody questions the fact that the XBox part contributes to the overall profit of the division (mainly online revenues), however attributing it all to a single console is a but naive (and the fact that MS never gives the actual breakdown should give you a small hint).

BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM...360 just keeps banging out amazing results!  They  have set the bar for performance...again...and with the way Kinect is driving sales...they are likely to continue to do so for at least one more qtr, if not more.

By the end of 2011...EDD might be back in black, on a historical basis...definitely by 2012 and the launch of the next box...THEN...things are going to get explosive, imho.  I think EDD could move up in importance for M$, especially if they move keep Tablets and Phones in here.  Corporately, Bing is the only drag on M$ now...dunno a way out of that though...Google has that pretty tightly wrapped!  M4 should have pushed HARD into the mobile years ago, before Android...now...it is going to be a struggle.

You're wrong, trust me on this. WM7 is profitable. You should actually be glad if you're a MS fan, I'll never understand this line of thought.
