What does MS have to do with Android? Android is free open source from Google. I used X360 as an example of a large firmware change, nothing more.

There's a difference between changing the UI and the entire backbone of your system though. Android is designed to run on ARM processors, and not PowerPC like the Cell is. It would require some pretty dramatic retooling to make it work, not to mention have all the Android apps work properly as well.

I don't think the shift to Android will happen on the PS3, most likely on the PS4, if at all.

As PS3 and Android are built off of Linux, it isn't as big of an impact as you think. It may have the Android backbone, but hte PS3 required SDK will be running as well. I am sure it will happen. Just have to wait for E3 for more details or simply the impending launch of these services/hardware during the holidays.

Android uses Linux base code, is highly flexible as has been ported to PowerPC before. Shouldn't be too hard to make it run  on the Cell's PPE.

For sake of argument let's assume you're right and all these Android devices pay MS fees, well Sony is already doing it with Sony Ericcson phones, PSPhone, TVs, bluray players, etc AND the new NGP/PSP2 .... what makes you think they wouldn't do it with the PS3 to ensure full compatability and increased value in its premier home device?

Rather I think instead of replacing the firmware on the PS3 with android they will add Playstation Suite package to the PS3 store which will emulate the android version perfectly.

Because sony are perfectly capable in making their own platform for the PS3 without any fees or court battles and making PS3 do what its supposed to do.  PS3 doesn't need Andorid apps or whatever else android brings to the table...and bringing Android store front to PS3 would have Google take a chunk of Sony store revenue. Not smart if you ask me...

Also last thing they should want to do is put a free source operating system on their already hacked console.
