Forums - Sony - Will NGP suffer the same fate as the PSP?

irstupid said:

another quick thing to think about is

What is PRICE?  & RELEASE DATE?

I mean whats to stop the 3DS from dropping to $200 if say the NGP is somewhat, and I mean somewhat reasonable at even say $300.  I mean if released same time as 3DS then its oh only 250 vs. 300.  But 3DS could drop by then to 200 to make it look so much more spendy at 300.

Yeah, it's wide open for Nintendo to screw them up on pricing advantage.

Specwise, Sony will charge $350 at minimum to break even, it seems.

depends.... do you count 65 million units sold as "failure"?

with Playstation Suite, Sony will be making a lot more money software wise,

based on what?  past history

history shows that psp was sorely lacking in software sales compared to all other consoles, home or portable.

But yea i'm worried for this new NGP as of now.  Of course shoudl wait till E3, but right now it seems like we can expect basically same as PSP in terms of games

1. Ports

2. Short Spin-offs

It's pretty much the same thing on the other side of the fence.

People are talking as if Nintendo had lots of new properties and innovative IPs, yet it's nothing but the same characters we've known for the last 25 years.

there is a difference between a port and a new game in the same ip.

A new zelda is for sure going to come at some point.  Are we going to see a new uncharted or will it just be ports of 1, 2, 3, ect?

Are we going to see Kingdom Hearts 3 or Dragon Quest 11 or whatever on the NGP or 3DS or will we be stuck seeing Kingdom hearts spinoffs and dragon quest spinoffs, or final fantasy spinoffs.

Nintendogs, Brain Training, Wii * are all new IP and some of the best selling this generation.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Fair enough, they hadn't come to my mind but they are new ips. Can't say I appreciate them, but that's something else.

Maybe because I'm not part of the demographic that's targeted by these games.

Why are people still crying about price??? New tech is expensive. What did y'all expect??? The alternative would be just another Iteration of DS or PSP is that what people want??? No kind of progress??? I for one welcome it. I love that 3DS is getting console games, maybe im crazy but was that not the point of portable systems in the first place??? I seem to remember Gameboy having the same games as the NES but in black and white(or green). I love that their are a lot less nintendogs and brain training. IMHO that stuff belongs on Ipod with the rest of the 5 second cheap games

the only thing that worries me is ifthe NGP will have the same piracy  problems as the PSP, I hope sony made a "tough-to crack system" I think the PSP would've done wonders software wise if the piracy wasn't so rampant

other than that I don't see any wrong with the PSP, for sony's first handheld it has sold over 60 mil, very imppressive to me.

I will reserve my whinning about price till Sony actually announces it. I don't think it will be 250-300$ personally I think it will be about 500-600$ due to how expensive the hardware components will be. However Sony could sell this thing at a loss and make the profit back on software (As they have done several times before). If its 250-300$ then I will probably pick one up sooner or later, this year I'm in debt and I gotta pay that off before I buy a second handheld in one year.

Games from what I've seen all the titles for 3DS and the few titles revealed for NGP look amazing I am not in the least bit dissapointed in the existing announced libraries. Of course I am looking forward to seeing what third parties will do on the NGP but I'm sure that CoD and what ever else gets announced it'll be good.

If I wanted cheap pick up and play cheap games I'd buy a I-Phone!

Well, it won't have piracy to articially inflate hardware sales.

So it's really more "Will they do better or suffer a worse fate."

@joecool7  i was referring more to the 3DS, some people are still crying

"If I wanted cheap pick up and play cheap games I'd buy a I-Phone!" amem, man AMEN!!
