Not anymore, Wii is almost dead.

Nope.  They both lost.

Lol, come on, let the PS3 have its moment of glory. It's a parallel battle for the home console crown of the year. I know, both are doing badly, but Wii is doing terrible. I kind of like this though, since it's gonna make Nintendo release a decent console soon enough. They asked for this themselves, they've got no one else to blame.

They told investors that delays and droughts were going to be avoided in the future like 4 times already, and guess what? They come even stronger time and time again. Plus 3DS isn't doing that hot either, I wonder if they will reevaluate things or just keep going down the same path forever without noticing their own faults. Yes, 3rd parties are to blame too, but Nintendo isn't trying anymore.

Oh yeah, Wii's totally dead at this point.  And 3DS is just accelerating that imo.  Wii this year is what PS3's going to look like next year, when NGP comes out and murders it.

I'm sure the Japan situation is putting on the pressure within NCL to get Wii 2 out the door sooner, but to be honest I wouldn't mind if Nintendo went all in on 3DS instead, and just went handheld only.  I don't think they will (not after Wii's record breaking sales), but I think there's some appeal in not "splitting your attention" like they have to.

3DS is doing pretty well all things considered though.  Tracking ahead of both DS and PSP launch, and they launched in the holiday period, while 3DS launched to the largest disaster in Japan's modern history.  Some perspective helps here. ;)

No, Wii's playing dead, hoping for PS3 to go away.

True but considering Nintendo's expectations, if the quake hadn't happened sales wouldn't have reached the projected numbers anyways. I guess they got too confident with the 3DS.

Going portable only would make me abandon Nintendo products for ever :/

Their stranglehold may be in handhelds, but they have too much talent to not do both.  I agree.

I'm not sure you can say that, I suspect 3DS sales would've held a decent amount higher the past 2 weeks if not for the quake/tsunami/looming meltdown.  In the end maybe Nintendo would be looking at selling though 75% of their shipment target, rather than just 50%, but that's still an appreciable difference.  That'd also probably be enough to make their shipment target in Japan (which I doubt they will now).

3DS is sold out on Amazon.jp btw, all orders placed are for next week's shipments, so there's clearly already some level of logistics impacting things, not just demand leading supply.  That's also the reason for PSP's massive drop this week.

Going portable only would be controversial, but I think I'd honestly prefer it.  Getting the full Virtual Console on 3DS would be worth it alone. <3
