More unlikely than likely I'de say, I say it will finish around 85M, if it does hit 100M then it will be the 2nd nonplaystation system to hit 100M, I know Wii will top 100M first, either this Christmas or Q1 2012.

This thread isn't about Wii so why do you have to namedrop it yet again? Why do you think people care so much?

People care about the possibility of the 360 reaching 100 million units sold. If it pulls that off or even if it doesn't, a comparison to other systems isn't that farfetched. A post like this is relevant, because it highlights how much of a feat it is to sell 100 million units, because only a couple home consoles have managed to do that so far.

Beyond that, the Wii was indirectly mentioned in the original post. Maybe from now on the Wii should be called "the console that shall not be named".

Actually 2 only, PS1/PS2. The Wii will be the first non Sony console to hit 100M.

OT. I don't think it'll happen, It'll be at 80/85M before X720 comes in I guess, and if it stops selling the same way the first Xbox did when new gen started, then no

I agree.

I do think that if M$ does keep the 360 out as a low cost($79 or $99) unit, it has a chance.  I mean, for some reason, the ps2 is still selling isn't it?

The PS2 is still selling but this console is a legend and is selling in poor/developping countries, things that the X360 doesn't, X360 is far from that. Even now there some games that I need/must buy on PS2. There were just too many good games. Even the Wii doesn't come close to what PS2 really meant back in to early 2000's.

Yeah, the library on the ps2 will never be matched.

Oh, and i think that the kinect adds to the 360's ability to sell as a low price unit....

Nope, Kinect will for sure come with the X720, in a more advanced form, so I don't think people will bother buying something outdated. Or Microsoft could also keep it the way it is but then, I don't think that it'll help too, if there's a BC with X360/720, then you'll likely buy the 720 and play your Kinect games that came out on 360 on it.

Around the Network

It should get close.

In Fact, all consoles this gen will get close. Gaming is really huge now. There should be over 250 million consoles sold this gen.

Seece said:

It's just too unlikely IMO.

For it to happen it would need next gen to start no earlier than xmas 2013 (likely anyway). Even so ...

(shipped)

2010 - 52 mill (roughly)
2011 - (15) - 67 mill
2012 - (12) - 79 mill
2013 - (9) - 88 mill
2014 - (5) - 93 mill
2015 - (2) - 95 mill

That is pretty much best case scenario, unless a Kinect AND 360 price cut really spur sales beyond belief and a $99 360 has a big legacy in the states.

It has an outside chance but I think 85 mill is a better target.

You know, I don't usally agree with you, but I'll have to agree with you on this one.

No, the Wii will struggle to reach the PS1 and I don't think the Xbox 360 can fall short of just 10m by Wii...

Why would Wii struggle to reach PS1?

Its only 18 million away from it, it'll probably get there by April or May of 2012 at the latest

I don't know why but I thought that the PS1 reached 110m; which is my LTD estimate for the Wii, and so I said 100m for Xbox 360 is too much IMHO.

No the PS1 shipped 102 mil, so the Wii is just under 18 mil away.  It should reach it sometime in 2012.  Though, I doubt it will pass the PS2.

I agree that the Kinect will be a standard part of the 720, but having a cheap alternative version will be a great price point to sell into.  Maybe a 360/Kinect unit could sell for $150(a yr to 18 months from now when the 720 comes out).

I think that the 360 will fall just short of 100 million. It's at 51 million currently, and if it adds 45 million by the end of it's lifespan (2012, maybe?), then it'd be at 96 million. MS will ride the Kinect wave for a bit, but I'd say that a new console would be slated for 2013 at the latest. So...Not really.

360 sales are waning quite a bit, as they are for the Wii, simply because both consoles are older. If the 360 adds 22 million this year, and 20 million next year (possible), then it'd still only be at 93 million. Adding in any last shipment numbers before the 360 successor might equal an extra 3-5 million, maybe. Close, but not quite.
