Forums - Microsoft - Do you believe XBOX 360 stands a chance to hit 100 million consoles sold??

That would be a massive accomplishment, and it is possible, but it is all dependent on what and when the next Xbox looks like and does.  If M$ follows it’s normal game plan and launch a more powerful box with an OS that developers can easily port to, as they do with PCs, then likely, people will transition over to the new console VERY quickly.  I think we will hear about the next Xbox later this year, and see it denied by M$, and get the official word in 2012.  Holiday 2013 for the launch of the new box, which will allow for the 360 to run the 10-year lifecycle, and end production in 2015.  The drop of the price to $99-$129 might do some strange things to the numbers tho…

More unlikely than likely I'de say, I say it will finish around 85M, if it does hit 100M then it will be the 2nd nonplaystation system to hit 100M, I know Wii will top 100M first, either this Christmas or Q1 2012.

This thread isn't about Wii so why do you have to namedrop it yet again? Why do you think people care so much?

Well I wouldn't count it out. But as of right now no not even with Kinect. 360 really is a hot and cold sales wise, I mean its either going really good, or mildly mediocre. That's not to say the other systems haven't had similar patterns it just probably seems more apparent with the 360 because its been on the market longest. What I'm trying to say is sales are looking good now, but thats not to say that they won't drop down dramatically like next week for example. This generation has been unpredictable and I don't really know what to expect. America is looking really good right noe but if 360 doesn't gain some ground in EMEA and Japan it won't stand a chance. At this point I do think its possible that Kinect will end up a burnout. Just IMO of course.

My predictions:

2011

Wii - 17 million

360 - 15 million

PS3 - 14.5 million

2012

Wii - 15 million

PS3 - 13 million

360 - 11 million

2013

Wii - 12 million

PS3 - 11 million

360 - 9 million

New consoles launch Late Fall 2013

2014

PS3 - 6 million

Wii - 5 million

360 - 3 million

Just a guess, I think PS3 and Wii still have enough steam in them, while 360 although still kicking will lose some ground by 2014

Worldwide total by 2014

Wii - 133.1 million

PS3 - 90.6 million

360 - 88.8 million

Unlikely but we would know this xmas when we see if the casual market has bought into the Kinect buzz.  If the 360 can get a similar sales explosion each xmas like the Wii gets then it is a slim possibility.

It took 5 years to hit 50 mill and you guys think it will do another 50 mill with next gen at our doorstep lol

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I think it's possible but will most likely end up in the 92 - 98 million range.

2011 - 15Million (65.8M)

2012 - 12-13Million (77.8-78.8M)

2013 - 9-10Million (86.8-88.8M)

2014 - 5-6Million (91.8-94.8M)

2015 - 2-4Million (93.8-98.8M)

I also believe it could continue production/selling until the end of 2016 but obviously very small numbers.

Ofcourse though it could do stupid numbers when it gets down to the budget price of 100Dollarpounds, but could also fall faster than many of us suspect and not even get close to 90M (75-85M range) which would be kind of disappointing.

It's okay...360 is dropping cash into the bank, and that's what counts in the long run...lol.

It will only happen when it reaches ps2 prices.
