Crytek has boasted that no other current game engine has the grunt to power a game like Crysis 2, and that CryEngine 3 could be used to build “pretty much any other game” from the studio’s competitors.

Despite claims that the company has “never cared about what competitors do”, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told CVG that “any other game that has been shipped with out competitors’ engines could have been done with the Crytek engine.”

Responding positively on the question of whether CryEngine 3 can beat Epic Games’ upcoming Unreal Engine 4, Yerli added that none of Crytek’s rivals could produce Crysis 2.

“I just think that our competitors’ engines couldn’t deliver Crysis 2,” he said. “Crysis 2, from a gameplay and entertainment perspective, just demands so much more.

“… Whether our engine is better or not is something to be judged by the people who use the engine, but I can say that Crysis 2 wouldn’t have been possible with any other engine.”

On topic, comments like those are never a necessity.

It would be interesting to see how this compares to id Tech 5... and what Carmack would have to say about this

Well given the information out there im sure they're right. This of course includes all engines, even 1st party ones from Microsoft/Sony.

It saddening to see Killzone 3 hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet. Fixed. Killzone 3 looks amazing, haven't see the PC version of Crysis but i'm leaning more to Killzone 3 for Graphics. ID tech 5 is great too and it has bright colorful graphics in Rage with still high quality textures so that is one advantage over Killzone 3's dark and dank enviorments. Though I guess that isn't much of flaw since that's the kind of game Killzone is.

Well currently playing crysis its pretty good other and one scene were you are walking in the canyon in the forest, its absolutely beautiful. crysis 2 is going to be amazing really. 

KZ3 looks good... Crysis 2 PC will be at a much higher level in terms of everything from physics, lighting, and visuals. Then again, Crysis: Warhead PC still looks amazing and is at its own individual level beyond most titles within the last few years. Its beyond Uncharted and Killzone 2 so Killzone 3 will easily be topped. Crysis 2 will be the new benchmark of 3D graphics for the next few years.
