Forums - Nintendo - Reports of sickness playing 3DS has some truth to it!

the 3d in the 3ds affects as many people that are affected by 3d movies,so yeah....Not that many

Perhaps not everyone at E3 got a chance to try a 3Ds. In fact, I'm reasonably sure that the MAJORITY of the people did not get the chance to hold a 3DS in their hands, less then 25%, much less even i'd imagine. And of course, of that portion of the people who did get the chance to try one, not everyone, in fact only a small minority of those people would run off and mention to a news media of any difficuties with the 3DS.

Just putting things in perspective.

70,000 people at E3 2010.  How many reports did we get about the 3DS making anyone dizzy or sick?   At 50%, that should have been 35,000 reports.  At even 6%, we still should have received 4,200 reports.   But they were quite rare and certainly didn't amount to those figures.

Because everyone reports everything.

No but as I noted in another post above people are far more likely to report something negative than positive.  Hell, just look at this thread and the other anti-3DS threads as of late.  When people are expecting X to happen and end up having a negative expereince from it, they tend to go out of their way to ensure others know of the issue.

Further more, negative reports draw far more attention than do positive reports.  Again, just look at the recent threads.  A thread that says 3D in the 3DS works may get 3 replies.  A thread that says the 3D in the 3DS doesn't work will get 300 replies.  Had even a small percentage of people made reports at E3 that the 3DS was causing dizziness and headaches, it would have been all over the Internet.  Fanboys from the other camps would have made sure that world and all 7 other planets were aware fo the problems with the 3D in the 3DS.

Hey there Viper I know you know me, we've posted together in many forums. You know that this is not an anti-3DS thread (At least not the OP) But you are absolutely right negative threads do garner alot of attention. A big point would be criticism I get for apparently being anti-Nintendo, though nobdoy googles me or looks up the positive posts I have made about Nintendo.

As for people reporting it and going nutz. I don't think most gamers see it as an issue look at this thread for example if it were really that detrimental to Nintendo this thread would be way more popular. Example if I made up some stats like 50% of 3DS users feel dizzyness and sick...cough...cough... that would garner more attention.

A thing I've learnt by being involved in the media and photoshop , photo editting classes. Is people don't care about what is real they want to hear what they want to hear. This thread is a perfect example , people want to hear Nintendo is doomed, I write saying 6% or less will be effected and people freak out saying " Nintendo is Doomed".

This thread was not an anti-Nintendo , Anti-3DS or Nintendo is Doomed thread. it was simply bringing to light facts stated by a reputable news network. You can disagree with the facts or agree I don't particularily care. I was just reporting what was said.

P.S- Viper you've got to know someone who gets sick from viewing 3D? I know three people who can't see movies in 3D or they will get so sick, one even barfed in the theater trying to watch a movie with me. So I know that this is real. Also another reason this might not being reported much could also be the fact that (If you get sick viewing 3D on TV or in theaters and your at E3 are you going to stand in line 6 hours to play a 3D console which will most likely make you sick?

Anyways hope this didn't come up as hostile I just wanted to clear this up, this thread was never anti-Nintendo. it was simply passing on information and reporting news. I am a seasoned Video Games journalist I like to report news and being out of job right now I'm back to using forums to report.

Joe, my apologies.  I didn't mean to make it out like you or the thread were anti-Nintendo and I should have said 'negative Nintendo news' threads instead.

And I do know a few that couldn't watch movies in the theater without problems but they stood in line for 2 hours just to try the 3DS anyway.  And had no problems with it.

The worst part about this is the average person will believe a negative story over a positive story. It doesn't really matter what % of people get sick, if the average person thinks they that might get sick, then they may not buy it or buy it for their kids.

There is a problem, although since pre-orders are selling out, likely consumers fears will be alleviated after its release and hundreds of thousands of people get to play around with it.

Nintendo's marketing will overcome all this negative bias that we're seeing.

Thanks no prob, I knew you wouldn't think I was creating an anti-Nintendo thread. Interesting I wonder how many people who usually get sick viewing 3D won't with 3DS. Note that the news report was reporting on 3D technology like 3DTV's and Cinema's. I wonder what's different about 3DS that would make it easier for people who have this problem to play.

I know my sis gets sick watching 3Dmovies many times, however she is ordering a 3DS too. So its not really going to prevent consumers from buying. As everyone pointed out if you get sick viewing the 3D you can always turn off the 3D. I just hope I don't because I wanna enjoy the 3D like everyone else. It would be no fun playing all the games in 2D while everyone enjoys them in 3D.

Luckily for me I've only gotten sick watching one 3D movie, I don't have much of a problem with theater 3D so hopefully that indicates I won't have a problem with 3DS either.

I think the 3D cinema thing is the fact screens are huge and the location of the viewer can be in all manner of location that is not in an optimal viewing zone.

With the 3DS, you get a smaller screen and a focused viewing zone.  And a means to adjust the level of 3D output.
