The "Religion of Peace" again shows how peaceful it is, gotta love the people who call these chechen terrorist scum "islamic extremists".

PLEASE read the quran..

They weren't, in the beginning, a purely ethnic-based movement, it was just that when Russia finally gave up in 1996, Chechnya slowly became connected with Jihadist elements and began embracing their tactics, especially tragic on the Chechen side because they lost any and all Western sympathy or support that they might have had, especially after 9/11 and Beslan

Such a fucking cowardly act...all suicide bombing in general is.

On topic, I'm surprised Russia hasn't carpet bombed parts of Chechnya where the rebbels are to be honest... These so called rebbels have killed 1000s of Russian civilians in the last 10 years.

1. Russia obliterated Grozny (capital of Chechnya) twice. They have destroyed many parts of Chechnya before.

2. The Russian military has killed tens of thousands of Chechen civilians. That's conservative estimates. Other estimates put it at hundreds of thousands. And hundreds of thousands have been displaced.

3. Chechen rebels have not killed thousands of Russian civilians. Chechen terrorists have killed hundreds. Less than a thousand.

They didnt start the war for fun, you know...

Is that comment aimed at my post?

While I don't agree with this bombing in any way... I have to say I wish Russia would just leave Chechnya. Their ridiculous hold on this province is just stupid. World powers can't keep forcing massive groups of people to remain in their country if they choose not to be. Especially, when they are not the same people.

Chechnya should be its own state, like Palestine, like Tibet, like the recent Sudan split, etc.

You can blame the Chechen separatist leaders for the first leveling of Grozny who forcefully asserted themselves in to power and wouldn't let go... Chechenia wasn't a seperate republic in USSR like Ukraine or Georga, so Russia, like any good soverign state tried preventing their separation without using too much force from 1991-1994. They did openly warn of a major military operation in 1994 to do this.

Then blame islamic terrorirsts for the second leveling of Grozny in 2000...

Chechen "terrorists" are responsible for over 1500 civlilian deaths since 1996

Their tactics are just appaling...lets blow up their schools, airports, theaters, subways and appartment buildings...wtf.

At this point, this ship has sailed...and I am not sure it would be the best thing for anyone to begin with.

Russia controls (and always has) all the public services like medicine and hospitals, police, transportation, education. Russia leaving the province alone would be like throwing a region back in to the stone age. Not to mention that they are investing a lot of money and resources in to the region due to the oil pipeline...

Yes your right Chechnya wasn't a seperate republic. Just forcefully annexed into the Russian Tsarist Empire in the 19th century and as history will attest to, the Chechens have been rebelling ever since.

It was the Russians who resorted to indiscriminate carpet bombing and artillery barrages when their poorly trained, ill prepared and ill equipped conscript soldiers took a battering from much better motivated Chechens using guerilla tactics. Surgical strikes these were not. They used a lot of force. The capital Grozny was levelled. And the human rights abuses by the Russian military far out stripped the headline grabbing tactics of the terrorists. It's very well documented, tons of evidence available if you want to see it. Executions, extra judicial killings, rape, looting, you name it. If anything the war made Russia a lot less safe as is evident.

Your link is a mixture of civilian and military deaths. All tragic as is the tens of thousands of innocent Chechens that died in their own homes after it was blown to pieces. Headline grabbing? Nah. Leave that to the Chechen terrorists who are playing catch up as far as numbers go. By the way can you find me a link of the thousands of homes the Russians destroyed?

The 'invasion' of Dagesten by Islamic extremists was the perfect pretext the Russians needed to give Chechnya another go. This time under the leadership of Putin they fared much better and have installed a puppet tyrant for a leader to rule Chechya with an iron fist.

Yeah, while I don't agree with their methods... I do get why they're doing it.

It'd be like if Native Americans started committing terrorist acts on US cities.

Wouldn't agree with it... but i'd understand it.
