Games? I'm pretty sure the PSP2 will get the same games as the 3DS minus the 3D (Resident Evil, SSF4,) and probably some shooters since the PSP2 would be the only handheld capable of playing them (dual analogs, PSN and online support).
I'm in. As always.

Losing money is only a big deal if its a significant amount of money (ie, the $250 they were losing on launch ps3s). They could easily sell the PSP2 at such a small loss that they'd make that money back with the sale of just 1-2 games.
Eh, I think we'll see a lot of games for it because of that. All PS3/360/PC games will suddenly become PS3/360/PC/PSP2 games. Of course, then we'll have even worse problems then we had with PSP. From console-lite games to straight up ports. |
At least there will be two analog nubs this time.
And maybe a mini HDMI port. I hope so.

1. But the iPhone has the benefit of subscription fee kickbacks to generate revenue. That's on top of their 30% cut from app sales on the AppStore. 2. The PSP2 wouldn't get such subsidies from its 3G carrier service unless there is some sort of data subscription contract involved, which would be a first for a simple game playing device. But I don't think SCE will have to sell the PSP2 at a loss. The iPhone 4 only costs about $187 to manufacture. There is no single component in the PSP2 that should make them excessively expensive to manufacture. An OLED touchscreen display is in a $199 portable media player, so even that doesn't qualify. And since SCE is presumably counting on media sales to generate revenue (unlike just about any media player not tethered to a first rate content/media portal like iOS devices), they shouldn't have to count on a huge mark up per unit for what is still basically just a game and media player. |
1. Apple and theiPhone yes, but that doesn't apply to other smartphone manufactureres like Motorola, who sell similarly priced phones.
2. The PSP2 will require internet for online play, digital distribution, and probably browser use as well. It will require internet access in a manner more similar to smartphones than eReaders and other devices, and I can't see them not charging a monthly fee unless they severly limit what functionality you can use via 3G. For example, only allowing downloads from the store via wi-fi.
Wait...
3G
Dual Nubs
Touch Screen
Perhaps they changed the PSP2 into...

Hmm I like the idea of 3G support but not sure if I'd want to play games online through it haha. But good to hear that it should arrive this year.
if this get's priced at 250 dollars we all know who's the winner
bye bye 3ds welcome to sony domination once again!!
$299 seems the most likely choice. I don't think Sony is going to repeat the mistake they made with PS3. $249 is low for such feature but $349 is too much no matter the feature. Thus $299 is the only logical choice.
