I hope to god that the Wii can be the top selling console till they make another one. Nintendo has been through a ton hte last 4-6 years and for them to just lose it all will crush them. If there is a god please let Nintendo stay on top.

Why ask God when many users here can reassure you? I thought their word was law.

Unless something goes wrong for Nintendo, the PS3 won't be equal to the wii next year.

Between PS3 and 360, In Europe and Japan the PS3 has clearly won, there is no doubt about this. In USA I can see in the long run that the PS3 will outsell the 360 but it will take a long time, 2010 about. I think that the lead the PS3 will have in Japan and Europe will be bigger than the lead the 360 will have in USA by July 2009.

you are talking about christmas season I hope ??? because last time I checked XB had still about a milion more console in oters.... and it took almost 10 month for WII to catch up with 360, beating it by a lot for a while now... the numbers are going to drop after christmas and be about equal for a while.... so wait a good while before PS3 can even think about saying they own europe (like they do in japan)..... MS is not giving up in europe they have way more maniability about an eventual price drop, and they have everything to announce videogames wise for next year... and I'm prety sure they'll find a couple thing that will interest europe....

I'm not saying PS3 can't win.... but they are not there yet.... this holiday season is highly unrepresentativ it's the first christmas for PS3 in a PS2 zone... XB is doing better than last christmas... sometime next year will be the time to say which way it's really going for now everything is possible both way....

and don't pull the MGS GT etc... on that one.... next year can be full of surprises good or bad for both console for all we know... we could have MGS or any other exclu announced ported on XB.... have some great exclu coming for either console.... or the opposite XB exclus going on PS3.... 2008 will be the turning point for PS3 or XB in europe... but it will be the real test for PS3 if they can or not keep up in that gen race... but until now I still don't see PS3 coming back... not that they don't have the games or the hardware... but they are just running late imho... and every suposed savior until now turned out being wrong.... thay just failed commercialy imo... they won't be able to keep it up long enough... at least noway they can sustain the financial path MS can take if they want....

because everybody is talking about MS shareholders who should be pissed... but once again i'll repeat it... MS shareholders are not just beting on the game departement from MS and MS corp is increasing their net profit over the past 5 years... were sony is decreasing it... MS does (from the back of my head) something like 14 billion net profit and sony something like 1,5.... they simply are not from the same planet.... and Sony has way more to lose than MS... hell MS could allow themself to lose for 3 generation without being in trouble...; Sony can't... that's why i'm saying I think they might be running late... and if they are not they are really close to it... they have to have a turn and they need it now... by the end of 2008 it will be too late....

all that's it's my own opinion...but MS having advance and more "drifting" power than Sony are facts... and that itself if the customers are not really picking a side will make the difference by itself...

that's what i'm thinking as well.....
ps3 is going to pass xbox360 sales in 2008, in many places, like europe......

wii is going to be first, ps3 second, and xbox360 on the bottom.....hehehe

and unless something goes wrong for MS the PS3 won't be equal to the x360 next year...there's still a gap of 7.3M console.

Wasn't that roughly the gap when the PS3 launched? Seems to me that the two systems have essentially been at  stalemate for months, mostly owing to the 360s inability to get any sort of traction in Japan. While the 7 mil difference matters a great deal early in the life of a console (like the 11m vs 4m difference that existed for a good chunk of this year), it's significance decreases as total sales of both systems accumulats (say when they reach 25m vs 18m).

The 360 desperately needs to pull away in order to bury Sony. They have to just write Japan off and putall their focus on the European market. The original XBox dramatically reversed it's fortunes there last gen with an agressive price cut and package deal, so MS may want to do this again. But if they can't pull away soon, Sony will be a bug on their ass all gen, and remain a legitimate threat next gen.

OTOH, Sony has to start closing that gap soon. If they can't show a noticable gain on MS by the end of 2008, the PS3 will be stuck with the "loser" label for good. If they can keep pace they'll still get games, but exclusive content and top flight talent will become harder to attract. If they fall even further back, they risk losing the games all together, and may have trouble mounting a comeback with the PS4. The time for them to get agressive is now, esp with GTA4 and MGS4 looming on the horizon.

I totally agree with what you say... it's how I see it.... and with GTA4 MS can pull up a good one with a price cut and this one could be bigger than what MGS can do.... I don't think MGS can do more good for PS3 than GTA4 with a price cut and the extra episodes plus a good marketing plan can do for MS....  and be sure you'll have a massive campain (halo like) for GTA4 on XB... remember how much they were talking about it at E3 already when they thought it would be release this year... the hype will be insane.. I expect it to be worst than for halo 3.. but at least we can all be pretty sure it will kick ass (no matter which console you'll buy it on)... and that's all that count to me... (rhaaaaaa since last trailer I really really really can't wait for that GTA to come out :))))))))

2008 will be "LBP and MGS4" versus "360 price cut". If MS doesn't cut the price expect the PS3 to rapidly gain ground.

Also, LBP is very much a wildcard. I think it'll be a big hit. I don't think there's any real chance it'll flop, but a small success would be just as bad for the PS3's fortunes. On the other hand it could also become "OMG system seller!"

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

well the problem with MGS, is how much will it sell with that user base... I don't mean it won't sell we all know it will sell really good for the PS3 actuall user base... but can we expect numbers anywhere close to PS2 that's the big question... what will MGS will really generate... that's the only reason I'm not sure of exactly how much good MGS can do for PS3... I can't really decide how to look at it... are PS2 people really waiting for that game to buy a PS3... will it stay exclu or not... will it get enough momentum to PS3 to use it to change something... etc I never could see any information that could make me think clearly how and what MGS will do for PS3...
and I think everybody is wildguessing..; PS3 fan saying it's the mesiha and XB people saying it won't be enough... yet we can't really honestly be sure of either one

that's true for the other big ones too... how the consumer will behave really for those games... I mean in terms of selling PS3s and how much momentum they can get.. or if it will either not work that well due to poor user base or good IP on other consoles or just get a bump in the sale and come back to normal fast etc.... or just blow the roof and keep it that way for good...
I think we'll see a mix of everything... but enough of it to change the tendancy... it's everyone guess I think

While LBP appears to be an amazing game, there is no real reason to believe that it will be able to break through any better than the PS3's other new IPs.  The main advantage for the PS3 is the brand loyalty of many PS2 owners who have not yet jumped to the next generation.  The software for the two systems appears roughly equal for 2008, so the only real advantage the 360 has is going to be the price. I think that Sony likely never wanted to cut the PS3 price so soon, let alone twice, so I suspect they will be very reluctant to drop prices in the first half of 2008. The 360 is likely to finally turn MS a profit this year (it would have last if not for the RROD), and with the Falcon chipset and 2+ years on the market they should be able to enact a significant price cut (at least $75 per model). While Sony might be able to match it, it would seriously cut into their own bottom line. So either MS would reclaim some of its market share, or it would kick it's main rival in the wallet. Either way it wins with a price cut.
