Really, they only starting to doubt the wii, i think it was like that since its launch.

For the 3DS/Wii multiplatform, no it won't favor the wii... All the core games coming to 3DS (resident Evil, MGS, SSF IV, DoA...) ported to the wii? i think its the answer.

Sonic is a core game. I never said everything will be ported. I just said that the 3DS will offer developers an oppurtunity to port games over. This inturn could help save the Wii in upcoming years. It worked with PSP and PS2. Two titles have already been confirmed to have gone multiplatform between Wii and 3DS. They have similiar technology and architecture.

In the future multiplatform titles will become more and more present. Porting to and from the Wii will make alot of sense. Games being ported over could keep the Wii alive for years to come, thus saving the Wii.

It is probably true that most of the marquee 3DS games will remain exclusive.  However, there will probably be many great games that will get ported over.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Alright now I know everyone is going to automatically say "Wii doesn't need saving" but hear me out. The Nintendo Wii is almost five years old. Also many analysts and gamers alike think that Nintendo will launch a next gen system in 2012. Now others have argued that Nintendo may wait for the competition to make their move which would mean the Wii would have to survive another few years.

But as we speak the Wii is growing older and hardware sales are beginning to dip. Software developers are starting to doubt the Wii. As we speak it is a pain to put a multiplatform title on the Wii. You need to develop the game on the 360/PS3 then downgrade the hell out of it or build it from the ground up for the Wii.

However the 3DS has a very similiar architecture to the Wii. So much so that Yuji Naka already announced his title will be multiplatform between the 3DS and Wii. Sega also confirmed that their Sonic game announced for the Wii will actually be multiplatform as well. So now when a developer makes a 3DS game they can port it over with somewhat ease to the Wii.

Remember how the PSP prolonged the PS2? Games developed for PSP and vice versa for PS2 were ported to and from one another. This kept games being developed for the PS2 till today. Infact some titles are being developed right now for both platforms like THQ's WWE All Stars for PSP and PS2.

So what happens in 2012 when Nintendo launches the next system? Nintendo themselves will probubly begin rolling back support for the 3DS. In the past developers have been quick to abandon Nintendo's consoles. But this time 3DS will still be selling big and game developers will be making countless games for it. So now developers will be able to port their titles over to the 3DS with ease. Meaning more Wii games coming long into the future.

Could the 3DS lead to more development on the Wii in the future? Will the 3DS do to the Wii as the PSP did to the PS2?

Lol lets save the most sold home console in history (still tracking above PS2 bitches).

But your reasoning is valid. Question is: "Will those 3DS games ported over the Wii be big releases?"

3DS can't save teh d0med console anymore. Instead, since the latter is equipped with EFI (Electronic Fail Injection), it's heading faster than ever towards teh BCF (Big Cosmic Facepalm)!!! Where it will finally be able to rest in peace together with Action Boy, MS Zune, Bob and Vista, Apple Newton and Pippin and countless other jinxed IT outcasts.

wouldnt that just hurt the 3DS??? If your putting a good chunk of your games on Wii anyway, which i already have, there is no incentive for me to drop 250 on a portable. 3D or not

It'll mean less work, less risk and more return for third parties which is always a good thing. While some may say Wii doesn't need saving, and I agree, it's third party situation definitely needs a boost which 3DS will be able to provide.

I agree.  I was thinking about how the third party support for the 3DS looks promising from the start but ironically it wasn't too great for the Wii, meaning better quality games and not shovelware.  Hopefully third party support will be strong in the long run for the 3DS so that perhaps the Wii might get some better support.

That will teach developers to support a system because of tech, not because it's the proven favorite of the mainstream.

I tried to argue this same thing last week and most people seemed to disagree with me.  However, we now have evidence of the first Wii/3DS dual-release game. There have been dozens and dozens of dual-release games between Wii and DS (Michael Jackson, and Sonic Colours are two recent examples).  Now it is going to be even easier for 3rd parties to release between the Wii and the 3DS since the games will be virtually the identical (minus motion-controls and 3D output).

The Wii schedule is looking very barren for early 2011.  Hopefully a few of these dual-release games help keep the Wii afloat.  It is going to need it.

Many of these 3DS games have been in preparation for up to 2 years.  2 years ago the Wii was at peak popularity.  Many of the 3rd party developers probably saw a big opportunity if they could easily port from 3DS to Wii.  This option minimizes the risk of failure and also maximizes profit potential-- an easy decision, especially since the porting is probably very inexpensive.

Wii/3DS multiplatform games make a lot of sense in theory, but it's not going to happen, because third parties still want the Wii to die. The only examples for multiplatform releases you can come up with are the very same developers/publishers who already released Wii and DS games simultaneously, so they aren't doing anything new. And the only reason why they put effort in making such games is because they either can't afford to develop for other platforms (Prope) or know just too well that they wouldn't sell on those other platforms (Sega).

Despite an easy and inexpensive porting process, you won't see SSF IV, Dead or Alive, Ridge Racer, Resident Evil etc. on the Wii. Simply said: Those studios who used to actually support the Wii in the past will use the Wii/3DS multiplatform opportunity and those who didn't won't.

You are probubly right. But I think THQ and other publishers who ported titles from PSP to PS2 will likely do the same or similiar with 3DS. Also don't forget their are alot of publishers who brought games to both DS and Wii, Activision, EAGames, Disney Interactive, Sega and many more. At launch companies may not be releasing many multiplatform titles but they probubly will in the future.

As for the link to the Sonic title going multiplatform, it was in the Live feed on IGN from the NewYork Event. Right near the top. But I went on IGN to retrieve it and can't locate it anymore

While I like your logic, there is no doubt in my mind we'll see the beginnings of the next Gen in 2012.
