Forums - Sales - Top publishers of 2010 [UK]

MVC

FOR THE second year EA is the UK’s biggest publisher, with the likes of FIFA and Battlefield in the Top 10. Activision rises to No.2 in value terms as there was less discounting on Call of Duty than in ‘09.

UBISOFT shot up the rankings thanks to big sales of Just Dance and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, while Take-Two’s status rose on the back of Red Dead: Redemption and BioShock 2.

IT WASN’T such a good year for Nintendo, with Wii and DS’s software market share lower in 2010 compared to the previous year. Retail generated well over £472m in revenue from Wii and DS games in 2010, but that is big dip over the numbers posted in 2009. PSP’s share of the market is also down over 2009.

IT WAS a fantastic year for Xbox 360. Microsoft saw its share of the software market spike in units and value to make it the undisputed No.1 console in terms of game sales. Meanwhile, Sony enjoyed significant growth for PS3. The machine has overtaken Nintendo’s platforms to become the No.2 console.

lol PSP.  I knew it was basically a non-market everywhere but Japan, but to undersell PC software at retail is still a surprise.

PSP really is dead...

But I am surprised to see the PS3 doing so well, I thought the Xbox was just destroying it, which would make me think that the Wii would be on top

So it is telling PS3 is selling more software than the market leader Wii.. So PS3 is not doing so badly in moving software.

The funny thing is worldwide according to our numbers, Microsoft is a bigger publisher than Sony is for home consoles. Thats pretty funny given how many people espouse Sony's prowess in this area and many also say Microsoft is a terrible console publisher by comparison to both Sony and Nintendo. Just some food for thought...

Tease.

How are they bigger? What stat are you using to measure? Revenue? unit sales?

Kind of crazy that PS3 beat Wii in terms of both SW revenue and actual units. Particularly impressive when you consider that this includes semi-bundled games as well, or at least I would assume so since WSR shows up on the weekly UK charts.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Unit sales. Go to WW sales for 2010 and substract PSP games.

Charttrack doesn't include bundle sales at the manufacturer level afaik.  Otherwise Wii Sports would be dominating weekly, those WSR sales are (in all likelihood) unbundled.

I'm pretty sure I remember one of the weekly blurbs mentioning that Wii Fit plus got a boost because of the new bundle.

:edit: Actually it was mentioning WSR getting a boost because of a retailer promotion on the bundle.

Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ holds on to the top spot this week despite an 85% drop in sales, forcing Ubisoft to settle for a No2 debut with ‘Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’.

After its blockbuster launch, only 63,000 sales now separates Black Ops from ‘Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’, making it the biggest ever Assassin’s Creed launch with 55% of sales on Xbox 360 and 45% on PS3. ‘Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit’ is the only other Top 10 new entry this week, new at No3. EA’s other new entry, ‘Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows – Part 1’ can only summon up a debut of No20. However, EA’s ‘FIFA 11’ is still a star player despite making way for the new releases, down 2 places to No4. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2’ is also looking healthy despite falling 2 places to No5. The rest of the Top 10 is dominated by Nintendo thanks to a strong performance from ‘Wii Party’ up from No12 to No6 and ‘Wii Sports Resort’, which returns to the Top 10 at No7, aided by a retailer promotion on the Wii hardware bundle. ‘Professor Layton and the Lost Future’ is down 2 places to No8, ahead of ‘Kinect Sports’ at No9. With ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ down 2 places to No10, Nintendo now have 4 games in the Top 10
