Prime on handheld will not sell much more than other Prime games. Majority of people prefer to run and gun.
Especially on handheld, where people prefer short bursts games. FPS Adventure is not one.

| Mr Khan said: Prime's success is attributed to aggressive bundling in part, but i think it also scores from being the "normal" Metroid released after 8 years of nothing, given that Fusion was stranger-looking of the two. This i think would account for Fusion's sales being perhaps lower than they should have been, since it very well might have been crowded out. It seems the franchise has been spread too thin, i think. If it were cut back to a once-per-generation affair with a focus on the core appeal of the franchise, perhaps they could optimize the franchise as it is. Their only alternative for growth is continued dangerous meddling a la Other M, which could do irreperable damage to the franchise before they find the right "new" formula for it |
Fusion still outsold Super.
Handily.
Yes, if it has online multiplayer with auto-aiming.
Assuming it comes in FPS form alla Metroid Prime.
| RolStoppable said: The original post is poorly researched. While it's true that gamers love Metroid, it's also true that Hunters (which was a spring 2006 title, not nearly a launch game) and MOM were not what Metroid fans wanted. One is a FPS and the other one a cinematic game. For a series that is as gamer-centric as the Metroid franchise, a higher userbase does nothing for its sales. An even more extreme example would be Fire Emblem, if you revamped that one completely and made it something it's not supposed to be, then it would suffer in sales as well. Applying reverse logic, both series wouldn't suffer (and they didn't) from a low userbase as long as they are what they are supposed to be. |
Sorry I should have looked into the specific date. I just know my DS came with the Hunters Demo as did most DS's at launch. The game was slated for the launch window. Having never bought it or paid attention to Metroid on the handhelds I didn't realize it came out in 06. My bad.

The Metroid seies is just one of those strange beasts. The games are consistently good/great but they don't appeal to a large audience at all. I think it would struggle to reach a million.
I think a 2.5d Metroid would sell reasonably well on the 3DS. Even if it wouldn't, I want it anyway.

Other M is a good game.
Sales: almost 800K....... Barely over 700K....

Other M changed up the Super Metroid formula WAY more than Prime did. That was the problem. :/
I say give it SPD1/Team Ninja, let them use the gorgeous Other M engine, add analogue movement, get rid of first person missleing/pixel hunts, make it actually open world, on an actual planet (or two, or three), drop the awkward CG interludes (and the Federation entirely, no peoples plz) and you'll soon have the MOM h8ers groveling at Sakamoto's feet, begging for forgiveness. Even better, make the whole thing a ground up Metroid 2 remake (Dread Mission?) and get some more horror in there.
