Knowing Sony, I predict PSP2 is coming with 3D glasses (sold separately)

Sony can't call 3D a fad.... they'd look dumb after pushing it themselves....

They actually should put 3D on the PSP2... that'll differenciate them from future powerful phones. and I don't think the screen takes much more battery than a regular one no? so there is no real downside besides price.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Considering that Sony are spearheading 3D Gaming and they have glassesless 3D TV's already in production...

It's highly likely that the PSP2 will have some kind of 3D element to it. Sony are heavily focused on 3D right now.

hope they make it a 3D glasses-less-ready screen for developers to decide anytime if they wanna develop a 3D game

Well it would seem rather odd for one of the big promoters of 3D not to have 3D in its latest entertainment device. The ability to watch movies (if not games) on PSP2 in 3D would seem to be a no-brainer, and no one wants to be seen dead out in public wearing 3D glasses.

The only thing likely to be holding them back is:

  • They are working on an alternate glasses-less 3D which works differently to 3DS and they haven't quite got it right; or
  • They are heavily invested in 3d with glasses for TVs / cinema that they think putting glasses-less 3D in PSP2 would be them effectively competing against themselves, and they want to drive home a single 3D format, i.e. with the glasses.
  • I rather hope that if they don't have glasses-less 3D at launch it is because of 1 not 2, and like Sqill says it will be in there in the first PSP2 re-design. But I fear the reason will be 2. Long term backing 3D with glasses is a losing strategy, because the end game is glasses-less 3D, for TVs and other small screens at least. Probably for the movie theatre glasses will always be needed, or at least will always be needed while the image is being projected from behind the audience down onto a screen.

I don't personally see it as a problem. Glass-less 3D eventually on the PSP2 would be complimentry to their efforts in the TV consumer electronics spaces and not counter productive. However they probably don't have the games to support 3D at this point nor do they have the hardware or even access to the physical materials to make a screen given the PSP2 likely has a larger screen than the 3DS. It is effectively the iPad effect where one product crowds out the supply of a certain form-factor/style of screen.

    Tease.

It's gonna b e3D since Sony is making almost every last one of their new devices 3D-capable.

Remember, they wannna make a "3D World created by Sony".

Sony's slogan isn't "What Nintendo create, we take" for no reason.

Yeah, why give up a winning strategy? I mean Sony must be thrilled about all those Move games in the top 10

PSP2 might get 3D for that reason and because they might not seem as cutting edge/ powerful/ cool without it

Might not get it because it'd make the PSP2 even more expensive (remember PS3 power?), have an even smaller battery life and seem like just a sad attempt at copying Nintendo again

Add to that the most important reason which is that nothing of the sorts has been leaked - from Sony - making my vote a no (even though I don't think 3D is a fad, thanks OP)

Even though it is a joke, it is still obvious flame bait
