Interesting though, I thought kiwi tastes were similar to Australia, kind of like how Canada was a mini USA. But they're pretty much polar opposites.

Actually Canadian gaming tastes are quite a bit different from the US: hockey games sell, football games not so much.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Oh dear, the PS3 has sold nearly four times as much in tiny Norway, the good folks of NZ must not like it very much (or it's price).....

Nintendo just uses some dodgey crappy distribution company in NZ, there is no advertising... nothing.

New Zealand is a terrible terrible place.

Some of our major gaming retailers don't even sell DS's or DS games.

@Mummelmann: The Norway's 57k if for end of the year and NZ' 15k for end of November. Norway isn't tiny compared to NZ, it's bigger in both population and land. It's also richer.
Saying that NZ sales for PS3 aren't great but they are even worse for other current-gen consoles.

As a New Zealander, I can assure you that the Playstation brand is in very healthy shape here. Last time I checked, the PS3 was consistently selling more hardware than the 360 on a week to week basis. LTD however, it trails Xbox given the yearlong headstart. Both HD consoles have alot of support and advertising in New Zealand, this is consistent with the previous generation which was dominated by PS2 and to a lesser extent the original Xbox.

Nintendo on the other hand have never been successful in New Zealand, even during the NES era. In fact the Gamecube was taken off the shelves not too long after its release here. Kiwi Gamebube owners were forced to import their games instead. As a result, I never bought one. :(

Both DS and Wii are practically nonexistant in New Zealand. Funnily enough it is not the casual gamers who buy Wii and DS here but hardcore Nintendo supporters. :D More advertising would help, although I have noticed an upsurge in Wii advertisements since Xmas.

I had hoped that the success of the DS and Wii worldwide would go some way towards addressing this curious situation. Unfortunately this has yet to transpire. :(

NZ is sony funland haha. It is one of the few places in the world that PSP is outselling the DS. That's how Sony land it is haha. go figure eh.

Why is anyone doubting this? The numbers are from GfK. It isn't really disputable.

New Zealand prefers the Sony consoles, and Sony has been very quick to point this out in the past. In fact, this should only go to reinforce the notion: recent Sony press releases for the AU/NZ region have constantly touted how well the Playstation is doing in NZ, with little or no mention of Australia. That should tell us that things are going very well in New Zealand, but notably less so in Australia -- and that's exactly what our numbers show us.

So why fight it?

@Xponent.

Completely agreed. In NZ the Wii is actually somewhat viewed as a niche console compared to the PS3 and 360 which are for the mainstream.
