Priestly: Mass Effect 2 “PS3 demo was old build”

According to Bioware’s Chris Priestly, the demo for Mass Effect 2 on PS3 used a two month-old build of the game’s engine - so put away the pitchforks, PS fans.

It was revealed last year that the PS3 version of the game is actually using the new Mass Effect 3 engine, however people were left a little deflated after seeing the demo in action.

It seems though there was no need to panic, as explained by Priestly on the PlayStation Blog: “The demo was, for certification and testing reasons, about a two month older build than the final ‘what you will play when you get it home’ version. I think you’ll see that the game is noticeably better at launch.”

Mass Effect 2 for PS3 releases in North America on January 18, with the UK version following on January 21.

If it is better than the demo and more stable then I may pick it up.

For those who've yet to experience Mass Effect 2, they're in for a really good time. I personally thought the demo looked fantatsic, so it news is just icing!

Yeah I thought so too. Especially the contrast was improved and the shadows also looked a bit better than in the 360 version in my opinion.

That's good news. I still plan to buy it on PS3 when it is a bit cheaper, although I already have the 360 version.

I'll buy it to give me an excuse to play ME2 a 4th time.

I really want to see how it turns out, but I can't afford it day 1. Probably get it during the Summer.

Same here. Summer is always a good time to buy and play some older games for me because of the lack of releases during that time of the year.

I'm still very much on the fence about this because: when i play games i change the camera control on the X and Y axis to inverted. the demo only let me change the Y axis, does anyone with the PC or 360 version know if in the full game you can change both.

1 of reasons for me not getting Bioshock 2 was because of this, despite me finishing Bioshock 1 which was a good game. i just prefer playing with both axis inverted, it annoys me when you only have one.

As good as it sounds, I gotta prioritize and after the demo, graphics or not, this is very low in my list. It doesn't feel like an RPG and that's what I was most excited.

il deffo get this later on. this year il be buying far less games brand new. il gte it in a few months

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I tried the demo yesterday and I didn't like it at all. It felt more like a shooter than a rpg and I didn't like the storytelling. I just can't stand that dialogue system. It just slows the pace and most of those decisions are not really necessary.

Good thing that I tried out the demo before. I just would have wasted my money on this. After Oblivion, Dragon Age and now Mass Effect 2 I now can say for sure, that I absolutely hate PC-stlyed RPGs. They are outright boring. My wife fell asleep while playing Dragon Age yesterday although she is a huge Fantasy fan...

It is still a miracle to me. How is it possible that those 3 games are considered masterpieces, got high praise and good reviews and still, and still i just can't enjoy them and I found them really, really weak. RPGS have always been my favourite genre... I don't get it...

that's good to hear, I played the demo yesterday, and was surprised at some framerate issues, I kept reminding myself "it's just a demo".
