Nintendo has already confirmed that the 3DS launch date and price will be announced this Wednesday. More information about the handheld in general will be shared, and the press will be able to try out titles for a few hours. But could there be a surprise on the way as well? Jonathan Ross, who will be hosting the Amsterdam conference, posted the following on his Twitter account yesterday:

“A few other faves coming as well – plus a few unexpected revivals!! Can say no more, sorry.”

Also worth noting, when a fan said he is happy there will be a surprise and that he hopes Metroid will be at the event, Ross responded by saying, “I think you’re going to be pleased then…”

Jeff Gerstmann posted the following nugget on NeoGAF as well:

“Yup. Expect something cool out of the NYC/Amsterdam thing. From what I’ve been told, it will be shared between digital distributed stuff and physical.”

So, it looks as though there will be at least one new announcement for the 3DS at the conference. Wednesday just got a little more interesting!

wowhow i missed that quote, Metroid prime hunters 3D I reckon, or maybe metroid prime 4?

Hopefully this conference clears up all the possible misinformation circulated about the 3DS right now.

Metroid back to its roots in 2D probably.

I reckon it will be a new Metroid developed most likely by Retro Studios, perhaps part of the Prime series? I do remember seeing a leaked picture not to long ago.
