There goes my dreams for a Call of Duty game in Vietnam.

Those of you who enjoyed the latest Call of Duty’s modern-day approach may be saddened to learn that Treyarch (the dev team responsible for three, and, who will quite possibly end up doing seven) is taking the series back to World War II for the fifth game in the series.

Well, that’s if a job ad on the Treyarch website is anything to go by.

The ad, which is for a level builder, in case you’re interested, doesn’t give away any concrete info as such, but after asking for applicants with “working experience with First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter genres”, does go on to add, “if you’re a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!”.

Which if you ask us is a bit of a giveaway. Why would the ad say that if the person lucky enough to bag the job ends up on designing levels for a modern-day or futuristic shooter anyway?

What do you reckon? Are we reading too much into it? Also, what do you make of the step back to WWII? After the success of COD4, is this what you really want? As ever, let us know in the comments section below.

Well it's the safe move, I was actually shocked when I heard COD4 was going to be modern combat.

Vietnam and Korea are really hard wars to make movies about because we didn't actually win either of those.

True... but still... they have to realise the world doesn't revolve around the USA appearances in Wars.

I'd be happy with a Kokoda call of duty game.

Making a War game that isn't set in WW2 is like making an FPS without a gun.

Seriously though,

Linear time proven formulas are a safer gamble than actually exploring new and fresh ideas. Oddly enough they achieved remarkable success with COD4 which just leads us to conclude they didn't have enough development time to research a new war.

To be quite honest im an arab and even though I thought COD 4 was brilliant I couldn't help but feel slightly bad about killing arabs throughout the game.

 I think an excellent innovation for COD 5 would be the ability to take different sides like in Command and Conquer.

I bet germans don't like killing other germans also. Thats just how he felt, tho lots of ww2 games let you play the germans thus killing americans, just a game ^^...

I would love a Korea or Vietnam shooter. Battlefield Vietnam was by far my favorite Battlefield game, but nobody plays it anymore, and I got tired of playing one of either two maps on the three servers I get a good connection to .

Why aren't there more World War 2 games centered in the pacific? It's not like there weren't other countries besides the United States there. I've been waiting a very long time to see the Australians finally get some recognition for what they did during WW2. I think they could pull off Milne Bay as a level or two.

But yes, i was really hoping for a Vietnam cod... that would rock, would have awesome terrain work.
