Yeah you are right Kinect has no impacdt on Kingdoms BUT with them both together shows that Xbox360 is trying to push this gen a little further. I also understand Kingdoms is not first party but MS could simply have said make it for a new console and release it at the same time if they were aiming for 2013 for example. Yes MS will follow the next consoles into the new gen but unless Wii 2 pushes graphics further than 360/ps3 MS will wait till sony releases theirs or when they are making it as they seem to do release them close to each other. I think with Epic/Ms relations Unreal Engine could work for this gen. One hopes anyway. And the crytek engine could just be the start of this generation as they have announced in one of Nsanitys many many threads. They have also put weight to Kinect pushing a bit further down the road. Again this gen is very different and we shouldn't compare. It wasn't that long ago where people thought that this would be the last gen. |
Yea, but fall 2013 is still almost 3 years away. Most games take between 1-2 years to develop, and the really polished ones take 3-5 years. So making games for a successor console now, would make no sence. Also if Kingdoms were an early 720 title, instead of a 360 title, sales would probably suffer. Generally early launch games don't sell well as there is a lack of potential customers.
Wii didn't push graphics that much above Gamecube and it still managed to outsell the 360, and PS3, almost combined. It's not so much about graphical pushing power anymore, as it is about console and game design. Even the best selling "Hardcore" games are not exactly graphical beasts (Call of Duty, Halo, GTA).
MS will not realease a console 2 years or longer after Nintendo makes a successor to the Wii. So if Nintendo makes something for 2012, then MS will definatly make something for 2013, and the CoD Map pack deal ending in 2012 supports this theory of mine,
This gen is only different in others in that, there are 3 consoles, all selling well, and that the console lifetime is extended because the PS3/360 cost a boatload of cash at launch, and are still comming down in price to reasonable levels. When the average console lifespan is 5-6 years, it's really hard to expect massive console sales after 8 years. Sony themselves even announced that they expect the PS3 to have a 10 year long lifespan, that includes at least a couple years where it's no longer the primary console, just like PS2 is now.
