Forums - Nintendo - Grand Theft Auto on the Wii.

This is not a joke thread.

Rockstar is putting Bully on the Wii, which is pretty much GTA without the Theft and Auto. So it IS likely, if not certain, that a GTA game will be put on the Wii. It could be a port of a past game, it could be a downgraded port of GTA4 (if they want to do it, they will do it), or it could be an whole new game for the Wii.

This thread is about discussing what GTA games could, if any, show up on the Wii. What would it be like, and if you could plant thoughts in the head of Rockstar's people, what would you add in the games.

Me, I hope it's an original game, in Tokyo, playing it as though most anime tropes are real there, such as the main character being a magical girl (just not a righteous one), and ALL vehicles have a mech mode.

Plus I would allow gamepad options, just for those who prefer it. Now don't give me any guff about how the Gamecube pad has too few buttons. It has exactly as many as the PSP, AND it has a second analog stick.

But first, the way I would map the Classic Controller would be as much like the PS2 setup as I can, with the face buttons just the same, the outer shoulder buttons just like L1 and R1, and the inner shoulder buttons just like L2 and R2. I would have the d-pad substitute for the lack of L3 and R3, with up and down respectively (left and right would control the radio). Yet for skipping parts on missions, you pressed up on the PS2 games. Here, you would press up and minus at the same time.

As for the GC, it would be mostly the same, just with Z acting for changing views, and adjusting for the lack of L2 and R2. Well when on foot, you'd just use left and right on the d-pad to switch weapons and targets. In a vehicle, the click funtions of the shoulder buttons would come into play. Press a button partway down for the L1/R1 funtions, and all the way for the L2/R2 functions. You would lose the occasional use of some at the same time, such as certain flying functions, or when doing a handbrake turn when looking right (if you could even turn properly when not looking ahead). If those are vital to you, just use the Classic Controller. Yet with this, you would have rumble (as long as it's not the Wavebird).

I worked out a GC pad conversion of GTA3 ages ago [i was basing it on the PC version of GTA]
I will try to find it tomorrow or something, though it probably got thrown out.

oh and GTA4 won't come to the Wii

Don't try to pretend you know what will and won't happen. If you could, go bet on horse racing.

Pfft. Why put it on the gamecube controller? Put it on the Wii. Point+shoot ftw!

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Maybe people are saying things like "GTA4 won't come to the Wii" just to get a reaction from you...

*runs*

Well the extra content won't come to the Wii, even if it would fit on the disc, since we do know that Take Two was paid to keep them exclusive to the 360.

"Plus I would allow gamepad options"

Did you miss that word?

sorry, i meant to say that i doubt it very much.

IF the Wii comes to dominate the market by 60+% by the end of 08, then we may see a late port of it on Wii.

I forsee more like 50% by then, and i reckon this should encourage R* to start some form of GTA on Wii.

As it would take time to make a new GTAWii I am doubtful R* will be desperate enough to make a quick port of GTA4 unless Wii totally dominates really soon.

I dunno. The congress would get "up in arms" if they found out you could mimic the killings & stealings & stuff w/ the wii remote... :/

Too late. Manhunt 2. Hello? And it still hasn't hurt the ESRB.

And TWR, I do think a port of 4 is unlikely, just possible. Ports, or even enhanced remakes, of the PS2 games would likely come first.

I agree with TWRoO.
