I am willing to bet, that in terms of shipped numbers Sony will reclaim the number one console maker for 2010. Nintendo Wins the handheld sector by a major margin though. It will be interesting to see what happens at Q4 reports.

That's not really possible.

Why not?

These numbers say that sell though to consumers was 18.74M for Nintendo and 18.68M for Sony. Sony could have easily shipped more units than Nintendo with sell though being this close.

I expect this as calender year 2010 shipments.

Sony

PS3 15M
PS2   6.5M
Total 21.5M

Nintendo

Wii 20.5M

With this Sony can announce that they are the number one console maker. Handhelds are a different market.

Ah, you are counting the PS2. Then yes, the number one home console maker for sure.

This is a spin that would make even Sony PR team ashamed of.

Adjustments for both 360 and Wii were needed as they were quite far out.

However the fact PS3 has been ignored is a bit of a joke really.

For the year 2010 NPD has total PS3 sales in US at 4.39m units.  VGC has it at 4.932m. A difference of 542k. Or on average 45k a month.

They all needed to be adjusted down.

Why is that?  You think It makes more sense to ignore the PS2?? That's like AT&T coming out and stating they are the largest cell phone carrier because the Iphone outsells the droid and the millions of other phones that exist and are sold by Verizon don't count because they're not the newest and coolest models.

It's cherry picking at it finest. First, you compare two consoles to one, and you decide to eliminate of the comparison the DS and the PSP. This shit of handhelds aren't consoles is ridiculous.

VGC numbers is for North America, NPD is not (no?) Although, I don't think Canada alone bought that difference.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 03rd Jan 2010 to 01st Jan 2011:

Console Wii
America
9,126,989
Console PS3
America
5,542,514
Console X360
America
8,458,470

so if usa is 87% americas (vgc):

wii=> 7.940m

ps3=>4.821m

xbox360=>7.358m

usa npd:

Wii -  7.07m

PS3 -  4.33m

X360 -  6.76m

yes, all of them needed to be adjusted down.

I already did the x 0.89 to get the US numbers.

All consoles were over-tracked. The PS3 was just as ove-tracked for the year as 360 was. If we are making adjustments to make VGC numbers seem more in line with NPD's numbers then PS3 has to be dropped down as much as the 360. If it isn't then as i said before it is a bit of a joke.

Real Adjustments will come in couple of weeks when all three release their shipment figures.
