Forums - Sony - Why do these hackers give away their work for free?

Because some people don't do everything they do just for money?

I can't believe you actually think blackmailing a corporation will be a better alternative to being charitable. They do it for fame, the guy is now pretty famous, on the internetz.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I find really amusing that not only some users that fail to understand that money isn't everything, but also that the OP suggest that blackmailing is a valid option O.o

Geohot was offered 100.000 dollar for his original jailbreak for the iPhone.. he didn't do it.. you know why? cause he loves us..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

again, better blackmail with a check than get sued for nothing. the world revolves around money. strange man.

Exactly. Giving stuff away goes against everything they teach us in America ( and the world really). But some people aren't looking to make a profit, some people just wanna help millions of people. That's why we have freeware.

well, in his case, it is piracy

it is not freeware

Time to Work !

many ppl do it for the prestige and because its an obstacle they want to overcome... that's what having passion for something is.

And you said how what he did was a stupid way to ask for a job from any of the console makers. Well watch "Catch me if you can." After scamming banks out of millions, and being jailed for a while, Frank Abagnale Jr. worked for the fbi, has helped catch many other elusive scammers, and helped develop several techniques/programs to catch forged checks and such...Long story short, he makes millions of dollars a year doing something he's really good at.

Edit: oh ya and lol at your suggestion to blackmail sony yet you don't like that Geohot asked the companies for jobs the way he did so.
