Forums - Sony - Sony Suing Geohot and others over PS3 Hacking

if pirates want to pirate fine for me, the only things i care is that the keep PSN free from moders, cause that would make the PSN a place where you don't want to go online... and people would eventually stop playing online, to summaries it will suck

Didn't Apple just loose a case about Jailbreaking Ipods and such?  This should be an indication of how this will all turn out.

Forget about Apple and Jailbreaking, Sony themselves lost a Jailbreak case in Spain. It is now perfectly legal to own and use a Jailbreak dongle in Spain, and if push comes to shove I can't see Germany (the home country of the majority of the fail0verflow team) and the rest of Europe being any different.

Sony are only persuing legal action in a futile damage limitation exercise to show shareholders that they're attempting to do something about it.

Do they have the equivalent of the European Court of Human Rights in the US..? If, by some miracle, Sony do get a result in Europe with their legal action the fail0verflow team will just appeal in the European Court of Human Rights claiming freedom of expression.

funny thread...at least we now know who are turning a blind eye on reality and refusing to accept that these hacks are harmfull to the industry and is the root of all PIRACY

if SONY goes down

Uncharted, God of War, Grand Turismo, Heavy Rain, Kill Zone, Resistance, Little Big Planet, Heavy RAin, RAchet and Clanck, and every SONY 1st party games go down and goes bye bye forever as I dont see SONY going the way of SEGA. They'd most likely just close shop.

If this happens I really hope all those who support this shit dies a very painfull death.

Nonsense.

The 360, Wii and DS have had rife piracy soon after each console launched and Microsoft and Nintendo software sales are quite healthy, both for first and third parties. Sony are not d00med in any shape or form, as long as good quality titles are released people will buy them. The problems that Sony have had with the PSP are down more to having crap games released for it rather than piracy issues.

I'm just curious, what would your response be if his post was simply:

I absolutely agree that this won't be the death of Sony and the people who made the hacks can scream they don't support piracy until they're blue in the face but it's undeniable that piracy is a direct result of these hacks.

I just hope I can play online without worry of all the stupid crap thats going on with PS3 MW2 right now.  Keep your modded console offline, im totally fine with that.

hell maybe Ill even buy a PS3 to experiment with down the road.

The thing is, they're not denying that piracy is a result, in their presentation, fail0verflow listed piracy as a side effect of the homebrew scene in all platforms, they don't support it, but they're not blind.

Now, i don't think the hacks are simply harmful to the industry, i think that depends on the use of this hacks, just like alcohol (if used well it has benefits, if used wrong it can cause chaos)... I used console hacks before, and it gave me the opportunity to play imports that never came here, and backup my discs so they lasted longer... With the PSP, it did wonders to me being able to dump my UMDs in flash memory, more battery life, less noise and better load times are a great given (god i hate UMDs)... And with the PS3 i expect my Linux back and if they can do a better video player and better web browser, then great... Of course i know that while i was doing this, others were using those hacks to play games illegally, but in the end every system gets hacked and the decision to do piracy is in no one but ourselves...
