I'm just curious, what would your response be if his post was simply: funny thread...at least we now know who are turning a blind eye on reality and refusing to accept that these hacks are harmfull to the industry and is the root of all PIRACY I absolutely agree that this won't be the death of Sony and the people who made the hacks can scream they don't support piracy until they're blue in the face but it's undeniable that piracy is a direct result of these hacks. |
The thing is, they're not denying that piracy is a result, in their presentation, fail0verflow listed piracy as a side effect of the homebrew scene in all platforms, they don't support it, but they're not blind.
Now, i don't think the hacks are simply harmful to the industry, i think that depends on the use of this hacks, just like alcohol (if used well it has benefits, if used wrong it can cause chaos)... I used console hacks before, and it gave me the opportunity to play imports that never came here, and backup my discs so they lasted longer... With the PSP, it did wonders to me being able to dump my UMDs in flash memory, more battery life, less noise and better load times are a great given (god i hate UMDs)... And with the PS3 i expect my Linux back and if they can do a better video player and better web browser, then great... Of course i know that while i was doing this, others were using those hacks to play games illegally, but in the end every system gets hacked and the decision to do piracy is in no one but ourselves...
