Forums - Sony - Sony Suing Geohot and others over PS3 Hacking

Oh puh lease

Why am I wrong? Because some random person decides to use his PS3 for linux? To play PS2 games?

To play SNES games?

Right.

Everything is just implied in the sense of marketing. PS3 was NEVER marketed as a linux machine. It was however marketed as a gaming machine.

Christ, it IS the latter!  Let's see what five seconds on Google gives us on this subject.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6254524.html

"When asked about the evolution of Sony's PS3 marketing over the years, Dille said the goal was just to change people's perceptions of the system from just being a game system to being a multipurpose machine."

Looks like their marketing department still has its work cut out for it!

So because only a small minority used Linux they do not matter?

It is also a small minority that is complaining about the PS3 being hacked, so I guess you matter just as much as those LInux users did.

Random doesn't mean small minority.

Plus PS3 is the only place one can play PS3 games on. You can use a linux on a PC.

Plus, in reference to your previous post, you said that you are for consumers. If that's true, you do realise your gaming experience can be at risk because of this?

You took 5 seconds to search it but I took two seconds to destroy this piece of "evidence". Date of the article :- April 2010.

There was no linux on PS3 at this time.

Who said i was supporting SONY? I am not supporting ANYONE. And it sounds like you are supporting a community that and i quote " that care nothing of *you*". The blame is on Hotz and anyone involved in hacking the PS3. I mean really, why did every other console get hacked? Are you going to say "because of the ummmm ummm...."

There is nothing to fight, this would have happened even if linux had stayed on the console. Stop kidding yourself by saying "Its all Sony's fought!".

Alright, I will refute this entire post.

#1.) Homebrew community not caring.

Numerous releases from the homebrew community whether it be SNSES9x, GNES, Nesticle, private online servers, homebrew indy title, etc... almost always have community forums where people give info on what they would like to see added/removed, bugs found, etc... and all of this work done over a long period of time by these homebrew developers is done 100% free of charge.

#2.) Why did the other consoles get hacked?

Easy, they never allowed homebrew from the get go. PS3 did.

Read the statement by Team0verflow. PS3 didn't last this long because SONY made some unbreakable code. It lasted so long because there was no reason for the community to do so. The 360 is actually a more secure console than the PS3.

http://www.ps3hax.net/2010/12/ccc-ps3-security-is-epic-fail-fail0verflow-project/#axzz1AqMmJ9HQ

#3.) This would have happened if Linux stayed on the console.

Is a possibility, but remember, the PS3 scene didn't really start getting into full swing until after Linux was removed, so your claim is actually more BS than mine is. I can actually back mine up.

A certain user's sig says it all in this situation as it helps to know about the scene if you are to argue against it.

Stop being so paranoid.

Has this same thing ruined the 360 gaming experience?

How about the Wii experience?

DS experience?

Oh, maybe the PSP experience?

Damn, not yet? Hmmm...

PS2 experience?

PS1 experience?

Yeah, I should be real worried.

Actually, you should probably worry less. It is what it is.

The Problem with people saying that he should go down for piracy is that the hack alone from what I understand can't pirate games, sure pirates can use the hacks to play free games but piracy is the act of fully copying and distributing games and it requires a lot more then the hack provided and as things go Geohot hasn't provided anything else but the hack to people, this is what people mean by it'll be a tough day in court for Sony. Another thing is the whole Linux Saga which could fall into Geohot's favour because in court if Sony argues about the consumer agreement then Geo can bring up the situation that started it all which won't put them in good light.

Way to go. I never said I cared about Linux. I only stated that the removal of Linux was what pushed the PS3 scene to crack open the PS3.

Do me a favor and actually read what I write next time will you please?

Sony needs to change their "It only does everything" slogan immediatly to avoid further confusion.

How about "third place in sales, but first place for gamers"? :)

You said that because you do care about Linux. That is also why you keep bringing up the 600$ price point.I have read, and all i keep reading is "Its all sony's fought for removing linux"
