It must be a UK thing then. DS games are currently priced $20-30 in the US. This is an 25-50% increase in the US, not to mention the price of the console has jumped so much. |
Here most DS games RRP at £30 ($46.92), with budget ones like Brain Training at £20 ($31.29). Most games fall in price fairly quickly, but the 'evergreen' titles such as Mario Kart stay at that price for several years. At release, some retailers put up prices, on the DS it happened with the most recent Layton, which was put up to £33 ($51.60) and on the Wii it happened to DKCR, which was put up to £42 (£65.68). And some, but not all, 360/PS3 games start at £50 ($78.19)
I imagine most 3DS games retailing in the U.K for £35 ($54.73), with some high profile releases being temporarily higher and budget releases considerably lower.
Oh, and these were last years prices, earlier this month Value Added Tax went up to 20%, so that might have a small, minuscule effect on prices.
