Guys, it's pretty obvious these are teasers, not really commercials. They're more akin to the very first Wii teasers, like this.

This!

Closer too launch they will release actual game footage and in ways that will represent the feeling of looking in too a 3D world

Can you disagree? It's just two guys looking at a screen and going OH-HHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO OHHH-HOOOOOOOOO.

Nothing other then that.

What are they supposed to show?

In the eyes of the fanboy, they're damned if they show games and they're damned if they don't (and not calling you a fanboy, just trying to make a point).  If they show gameplay, people will bitch and moan that everything is simulated, it's not the same as the real thing, and it's false advertising.  If they show reaction shots, then it's OMG where's the gameplay!

Personally, I think they're fine because how else are you going to show the main gimmick of the 3DS?  It's a glassesless 3D object and that's cool.  This is probably the first or one of the first mainstream things like that of its kind and Nintendo is doing exactly what they should be doing-- taking advantage of that.

They could show some simulated 3D clips of gameplay but why do that when you can show people showing the actual emotion they get the first time they see the device in action?  That's a lot more promising than showing gameplay.  For the first few month's it's going to be all about the gimmick and that's fine.

So those commercials aren't pathetic in the least.

It's indicating that the 3DS is so good that it makes you jizz your pants. That's good marketing imo. XD

I know right, lol!  It's a recurring theme I notice.

What I am the only one who doesn't understand Japanese?

What are they saying?

They're showing people playing the games, and their expressions and what they're experiencing, rather than the games themselves. It's an extremely effective form of marketing, when done right. And EXACTLY how Nintendo promoted (and still promotes, albeit to a lesser extent) the Wii back when it launched.

I'd say smart move. Of course, random internet-dwelling people may know better than Nintendo themselves how to promote their products.

lol, that commercial is ridiculous

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Also, worth mentioning that the Japanese guys (there is 5 commericals) is a member of Arashi which is a gigantic boy band.

Nintendo is doing better than you think specifically with their choice of actors.
