I was thinking of switching from AT&T after they announced this but I'm going to re-up with AT&T for one more contract, then consider moving again in 18 months. No LTE, slower 3G network than AT&T, no simultaneous voice/data. Fail.

I've been waiting for the Verizon iPhone for about a year now myself as I live in San Francisco, one of the worst data congested cities on AT&T's 3G network, but with the finalized details now available, it looks like the only benefit is being able to switch carriers.

The simultaneous voice and data isn't a dealbreaker for me but it's pretty obvious that the data bandwidth restrictions of 3G network speeds are what's preventing this.

So it's wait for a 4G iPhone in another 6-12 months (AT&T will likely get it a good 6 months before Verizon) or renew for another 2 years with AT&T 3G or 2 years with Verizon 3G.

It may just boil down to which carrier provides the better package at the better price.

I could always get a 4G Android phone, but since I'm not anti-Apple and never have been, it's doubtful I'd be instantly won over and run the risk of being stuck with Android OS for the next 2 years when I've been nothing but satisfied with iOS for the last 2 plus years.

So it's the same phone as 7 months ago on a new network.... It is still a bit behind many Android phones, I would advise waiting for the iPhone 4G which should come out this year

Nope. Apple already confirmed that a LTE iPhone won't hit until 2012. LTE is just not big enough on all carries to make it worth it for them.

This years iPhone 5 will simply be a faster, more featured iPhone.

How is it behind any Android phone? iOS and Android are completely different experiences and its still the champion iOS device.

Unless you are counting screen pixels, camera mega pixels or bits of ram, your comment makes no sense... And if thats what you are talking about, it really doesn't make sense.

1. LTE iPhone won't appear until 2012 (prob June/july as normal)

2. Out of hte MANY years I've been using phones I have only had one time where I wanted the data/voice at same time feature.

3. The far larger footprint of Verizon's 3G easily out does the technically faster AT&T 3G. Consider each company has 100 blocks. AT&T has 10 blocks that are 100% rated and the rest are 30%. Verizon has 85 blocks that are rated 85% and 15 that are 30%. Its pretty clear which is the best option, unless you live and remain in the tiny 10 blocks of AT&T's 3G.

Verizon >>> AT&T.

I use voice and data simultaneously ALL THE TIME. While that's not a deal-breaker for me, combine it with the good coverage I get with AT&T in the Twin Cities so Verizon doesn't have that advantage for me (but I acknowledge that their coverage is, by and large, superior to AT&T).

If Apple doesn't have an LTE phone ready to go with the iPhone 5 in August, they're making a HUGE mistake.

In any case, I save about $200 by re-upping with AT&T instead of moving to Verizon and paying miscellaneous. This new Verizon iPhone doesn't offer enough to offset that.

There is no way an LTE iPhoneis coming out this year. Verizon would be the only carrier with any real coverage for the phone as AT&T is a year behind them in rolling it out. AT&T would be stupid to ask/push Apple for this.

Now on the other hand, Apple is equally as stupid if they don't have an LTE phone come out as there will be a slew of Androids with dual cores out by June/July when iPhone's typically release.

However, looking at how Apple handled 3G, they may just wait for more carriers (in and out of US) to have LTE before they push it out, thus 2012.

Really? Living in England, 4G hasn't really touched over here, I just assumed that as it was the main thing from CES with most top smartphone (apart from the arc) having 4G, it was becoming more mainstream

@disolitude, I was thinking more of 4G (but I am told I am wrong on that one) and yes processor, camera and stuff like that. Though I suppose it comes down to personal preference, as I want a larger screen and a good camera

Any word on a Droid 3? I really dont give a damn about the iPhone, I just want an LTE powered Droid. And my contract with Verizon will be up towards the end of the year.

I think this is probably the closest, it is the Atrix, the next Motorola flashship phone

Droid Biotic running Nvidia's ARM CPU Tegra2. Interesting to say the least, and will be awesome to see the games for it.

Those do look nice, it is interesting to see how far the phones have come in the last year, I just hope they go as far again in the next year before my contract expires
