I probably would have been in the queue to buy Heavenly Sword 2, because I picked up Heavenly Sword for cheap and really liked it. But Enslaved, while it looks good, hasn't really grabbed me as a must play. I go along with other comments that it really released in amongst some other heavy hitter titles.

I don't know, the game just doesn't feel right to me. Besides, releasing that month was almost suicide. Castlevania, Enslaved, Vanquish - all the three paid for it.

Well there was this tv ad, they showed it here in the UK, not sure about anywhere else. and there was a demo, which i think wasnt that good, but still showed promise for the full game.
Tbh, even Sony dont market that well. probabily because their console has lost so much money, but still i think the tv as was really good, and showed off some of the games finer points. |
I'm from the UK, might of seen the ad but it never made a lasting impression. It's odd as it's a game I like the concept of, enjoyed the demo but still haven't bought - will do eventually but I find it hard to enjoy a story driven game like this with the looming doubt that I'll ever see a sequel and be left ****ed by the inevitable cliffhanger at the end.
But yeah, there's alot more to it then just sticking an advert on TV - and whether or not you think Sony market well, you can't argue with LBP, Uncharted, Motorstorm, Resistance, InFamous, Heavy Rain etc all becoming new IP million sellers on the third place console.
Imo Namco just got the launch day wrong - should have taken the Janaury type date Darksiders took last year, Would face stiff competition on the PS3 but it'd pretty much have two weeks all to itself on the 360, it just got crushed by known IP's when it did launch.
The general consumer isn't smart enough to research the products they want to purchase, so instead of picking up a good game like Enslaved, they'd pick up three copies of Hannah Montana: Cow girl poke around, mainly because that's one of the few games they know anything about. It also doesn't help that it was marketed poorly and that it's a short experience.
I still believe that Enslaved should of been an exclusive title to either the PS3 or the 360. It would have built up a fair bit more interest, it would have been thrown around in these console comparison things that happen every year and it could have at least had legs as new consumers bought consoles and are looking for any of the new exclusive titles on the system (similar to Valykria Chronicles, Uncharted 1 and Demon's Souls).
Ninja Theory are great developers, but they don't seem to be able to catch a break. I think the best option would be to try and sell themselves to a publisher like Sony or Microsoft and work with them to build games. I doubt it'd happen, but it's a nice thought.
I also like the direction DMC is going in. DMC4 was boring as fuck and I welcome a sudden change to the franchise.
Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
I loved the Heavenly Sword demo, it had a great feeling to it: gorgeous protagonist, tons of enemies that reacted like a real crowd, intriguing combat mechanics, great graphics and physics, awesome animation, awesome sound.
I didn't like the Enslaved demo: borderline annoying protagonist, few enemies that all sucked, almost no combat mechanics, not good enough graphics (worse than HS), few particles to judge physics on(compared to HS, the environments looked really empty), bad animation (bad bad animation for our times, I think I was disappointed with the demo after the first jump), bad sound (I use the TV's speakers that's true, but the sound in the demo was bad or lacking for me compared to other games on the same sound system).
I played the demo twice, the second time on hard hoping that would add to the experience. It didn't (it was easier than the first time since I was already proficient enough with the "combat mechanics").
Sadly, this game is not out of my list solely based on what they did in HR, and that I hope to see Andy continue doing games.

I don't know if it is as you say, but the twing-twang and the 3 stance combat in HR were pretty innovative as far as I know.
