Last year was pretty bad for many developers and publishers, seems like 2011 isn't going to be a good year for some of them.

European developer and publisher JoWooD Entertainment has entered a state of insolvency.

The Austria-based firm announced on its corporate website that “all efforts towards restructuring of capitalisation concerning outside capital as well as equality capital had to be considered as failed”. As such, it has declared material insolvency.

Painkiller was made by people can fly, which now are part of Epic games, and are developing Bulletstorm. AFAIK JoWooD only produced/distributed the game, but not developed.

Yeah - I love Gothic 1 and 2 - both are probably in my All-Time-Top10.

Piranha Bytes is still around and they seem to have a good relationship with their new publisher (Deep Silver). Their latest game (Risen) was allright - give them a somewhat bigger budget and a bit more development time and they might create a game with that special Gothic-feeling again.
