Forums - Gaming - First 3DS detail: 10 Launch titles, more expensive than DS games

Ugh, expensive system, expensive games, and a short battery life?  No thanks.  It keeps easier and easier to not buy one of these.

Don't get me wrong, I really want a 3DS, I love the idea of it and the lineup, I just have no intention of paying $250 or more for the system and I especially have no desire to pay $40-50 for a handheld game.

According to XE, 3DS games translate to £44 with some being £52 (DS games RRP at £30 and Wii at £40)

Damn weak pound...

That's not a good sign - I'm completely crazy about the DS, and have been looking forward to the 3DS for a long time, but I am only just-about willing to pay such high prices for 3DS games.

Does the price of 3DS games in the UK mean that it's set to fail there? The recent increase in VAT, as well as train fares and fuel tax means that people will have less money to spend on games, let alone a £15 increase

You don't have to worry that much, since the low end yen prices are the same as normal DS prices and the high end are might end up being psp-wii level.

Those are Japanise prices recalculated into pounds so official RRP should be lower probably 40-45 pounds per game.

Expensive system overall...Check!
RIIIIIIIDGE RACER!!!!!...Check!

Most ingredients of the failproof recipe for overwhelming success seem to be there... But I got that strange feeling that something's still missing...

That's so 2006.

Also the missing factor is something that is cheaper and has a unique factor...which I doubt the psp would have.

PSP? What? Where? I wasn't thinking about it when I wrote that!

Well that is the mixing factor! :P
Or some other handheld that can pull it off, but we know the alternative will always be more costly and more dull
(I don't think anyone besides nintendo and sony can pull off a gaming handheld well)!

I'm not a big portable fan, but I must admit that Sony is slowly learning, PSP evolved from having unusable commands for my personal tastes, in its first version, to barely acceptable ones.

I could say Apple with iPod, iPad, iPhone or iWhateverelse, but I touched an iPhone for the first time ever on last New Year's Eve and I must say that, unlike my sister and her colleagues, I'm not enthusiast about it. Maybe it's just me, I hated Gameboy too, portable gaming devices aren't really my cup of tea, other portable devices are commodities I use without feeling a real irreplaceable need for them, except the cellphone, and about cellphones, I like new features on them only when they become battery life-friendly and perfectly streamlined through years of experiments on users more willing than me to be guinea-pigs and to pay for it.

And don't forget horribly increased tuition fees, the biggest market for games, students, will be lucky to have enough left to eat, let alone gaming of any kind...

And I complained about Italian tuition fees almost doubled through the last 5 years...

American people migrating to either Japan or Europe would finally see what expensive really means... >_>

It's annoying to see American users complaining about $40 games- not only is that cheaper than the rest of the world, but the average wages are higher in the US too! o.o
