Also I doubt the internet would collapse unless it is a 360 exclusive, not after the fun game Final Fantasy XIV. |
Name me on FF released after FFVI that doesn't have mixed reactions from fans

hikaruchan, lets not make this an argument. Rob-Ot has made a reasonable thread, because FF13 might not even break 2 mil in Japan, which is a first since before even FF6, more than 10, maybe 15 years ago. this is a concern because here in the west that could be replicated, and we could see something like Mass Effect become the dominant RPG, this is not an unreasonable occurance imo.
i admit i have no deep love for production team 1, but i think my post genuinly addressed how things went wrong, and how the departure of Sakaguchi is to blame for what went wrong with a lot of things after FF10. so i mean if you disagree with that fair enough.
but i'm not turning this into something its not (FF13 bashing, not about that), but i think its genuinly what went wrong after Sakaguchi left.
| A203D said: ryuzaki57. the man to blame is Hinirobu Sakaguchi tbh, the commerical failure of The Spirits Within led to the bankrupcry of Squaresoft and led to his departure. since then the person as the head of prouduction team 1 had become Yoshinori Kitase, who contrary to common belief is NOT a qualified game designer. he is in fact a film graduate, who was inspired by things like Star Wars, etc, big theatrical motion picutures.(i have no source for this by the way, but the information is out there). anyway the problems imo began with FF8, when Sakaguchi took a backseat to development to focus on The Spirits WIthin. Kitase, Nomura, Nojima, (and whoever is a key part of production team 1) focused on telling a more teenage drama, instead of the epic sweeping story. this wasnt necessariy a bad thing, but a lot of people cite Squall and the rest of the cast as poor and the story about time compression, Ultimecia, also poor. but the transition to photo realism and cinematic action was what attracted people to it. and those were great things, but they've taken FF to the depths it has sunk to now. FF9 was done by a different team, and was meant to draw from the series roots, instead of doing things like FF8 did. they did a great job, but the sales were very weak compared to FF8 & 7. Sakaguchi had more direct involvement this time, despite his comitments to the TSW. FF10, featured the combined force of Sakaguchi and production team 1, who did a good job at the time. but the title aged badly, with the voice acting and dialogue being key culprits. FF10 did feature excellent gamplay however (imo) and incredible production values. since then Sakaguchi left, and FF went completely downhill. FF10-2 was the beginning of a nightmare for fans such as myself. we've had remake after remake, sequel after sequel, the FF7 compilation has been nothing but an ego trip for Nomura (imho) and a disasterous FF12. i've already talked a lot, so i wont go into FF12, but theres no doubt the problem with FF has been the departure of Sakaguchi, and the direction Kitase has taken the series in FF13. his background has significantly reduced the element of gameplay in FF13 in favour of 6 hours of teenage melodrama. this imho is a disaster. and without the marketing they would not have achieved these sales, and this would never have sold 6 million if it didnt have FF on the box, just like every other IP this gen from Sqaure has been met with poor reception. |
this here is my candidate for the post of the year award, and note that the year is starting but i have no doubt that nothing will beat this post .

Hey Listen!
Yes I am going to be a bit of a broken Record myself right now.
someone did say once that with some of the Fans that FF has FF doesn't need haters. I know some people that stop playing FF when FFVII was released because they sore FFVII as the death of FF I also know some people that stoped after FFVIII because they hated it. I also know some who hate FFIX because of the Fantasy Setting and Chibi Characters as well as and some who hate FFX and a lot of people who hate FFXII with a passion.
Personally when I love a Game series I love all the Games in said series but on different levels like with the FF series I an always find some elopements in all FF Games that I can love. Like FFXIII for example I love the Battle System and the Characters and a lot of other stuff. but I don't like the lack of Mini Games and there should have been more exploration and I do like towns like most people. if Square-Enix PDD1 team had made FFXIII design structure like FFX then that have made it a better Game.
Edit: Final Fantasy has Constantly changed and experimented with the formula over the years to try to best meet what the current market trends and customer expectations and FF will continue to changed and experiment with the formula for as long as there is a market for JRPGs. But SE will always focus on Japan as its primary audience for FF that us way there has been a very high Manga/Anime influence.

Then they would have gone under with the second movie like it. It was a big expensive push for a small market. That's why it failed - even a far better movie would have made little difference. Had they done more mainstream stuff... then Square pictures could have had a long future. |
I think it was actully ahead of its time, i havent seen it in ages, and i've never seen it the whole way through, just large chunks, but i think it was way before its time. in many ways i think its like Avatar, but Avatar had James Cameron, and Warner Bros, and 3D.
i'm sure if it didnt have the name FF, and if it was in 3D or Imax (some sort of gimick), and released today it wouldve been recieved a lot better. but the name i think really turned people off. they probabily just thought it was some siliy game movie, and probabily compared it to the likes of Resident Evil or.... Dooooom.
oh by the way i mean that i dont think RE the movie or Doom are good at all.
