My problem with predictions on this site is that most people make very uniformed predications.  Instead of using facts as a guideline, they use fanboy drivel.  I enjoy reading peoples predictions when they back them up whether they turn out true or false.  They used the best information they had at the time to make a guess, which is great. 

Recently, some people have predicted that Kinect will fall off the face of the earth after this holiday season.   There is no good reasoning to come up with this prediction other than they want it to fail.  The only argument that could be used is that there is little software support, but this is flawed because we do not know what MS has planned for next year.  These people are assuming that MS will stop supporting Kinect which is simply ridiculous. 

Bottom line:  Informed predictions are great, fanboy drivel sucks.

I agree with you completely on the first part. If somebody had told me before the PS3 Slim announcement that the PS3 would peak in 2010, I wouldn't give them credit for getting it right because it was just fanboyish hope that led them to believe it - not reason. If, looking at how things were going, somebody had said that the Wii would be at 75m sales by 2010 back in late 2008, I wouldn't serve them crow later simply because they were using the best resources available to them and were predicting the most likely result, even if they were 10m off.

EDIT - Oh, and this is hillarious! Every one of my arguments with Chibi results in its own thread. It's ike some sort of curse, xD.

That wasn't supposed to be literal, :P. It was hyperbole.

And I don't see how you can say I sound annoying without feeling hypocritical when you're the one who always seems to respond condescendingly to anything you disagree with and waits till someone gets irritated and responds to give any reason for it.

By the way i would liek to point out that the definiton for prediction that states "(as by reasoning with the future)" i am free to understand it however i wish as it is somewhat vague. I believe it means to use common sense which is generally guided my things of fact. Unless your common sense involves fairies and dragons gergroy ;)

yes, that definition is very vague.  You can apply meaning to it how you will, but when you couple it with all the other definitions out there, it is obvious how the word is meant to be used.  That is using common sense my friend ;)

edit: also, there are plenty of facts about the sales of the consoles out there right now, we have historical trends, current trends, sale through data, etc.  You can easily make a prediction at this point based on a bunch of facts, you just don't have all of them yet, which is why it is a prediction and not a fact.
