I've pretty much known for a while that Kinect had to be undertracked a bit since I see daily, weekly, and monthly sales for Kinect in my district but I didn't say anything since I didn't want to stir anything up.  360 Hardware is also slightly undertracked if other retailers are seeing similar sales as we are.

Sales will be 8 million to consumers and not shipped numbers.  And even if it is shipped they were literally SOLD out company wide so at the very least it will be 7 million to consumer.

Update: Bloomber Tech Report Dina Bass got a clarification on the numbers from Microsoft by tweeting that, "Microsoft has clarified to me that the 8 million KInect number is sell in, or how many were shipped to retailers. Not sell thru."  Microsoft told her that it "far surpassed" the previous 5 million sold thru but wouldn't give exact numbers.  How close Greenberg's "essentially the same #" statement is to reality is currently unclear but Bass points to his statement as evidence that "pretty much all of them have been sold thru."

It's probably close to 8 million I would imagine, probably no less than 7 though.

So he said "Over 8 million sold". If that is shipped to retailer then the actual sell through can't be that far behind. Like Axerob said, can't be less than 7 million. An insane acomplishment none the less.

Still absolutely great numbers. But some people should eat crow here in this thread given their absolute insistence. But now that I read some posts that posted while i was writing this, I see no one will. There's no honor any more

Wait they are saying: "we shipped MORE than 8 million, but pretty much all of them have been sold thru" and you come up with a 5 million figure? Sounds way too low for pretty much all of them have been sold through. 7.5 million would be an educated guess IMO.

8.1 maybe even 8.4 million shipped so about 600 - 900k in stores sounds very reasonable.

I say VGC undertracked Kinect by 2 million worldwide. It is currently at 5.42 million, which is way too low, but they have one week of data missing.

I posted in a thread before christmas that it would do 7million and damn if I'm not really close!  Even if that number is 8million to retailers, it was damnd near impossible to find one at retail until after Christmas.  So I would be willing to make a bet its over 7mil to consumers.  No way its under 6.5mil.

Either way its an epic win for MS.  Remember all of those threads a few months back about how the Kinect would fail due to the lack of sensitivity.  LOL!!  Word of mouth and a big advertisement campaign does wonders.  I also will bet that the 360 is significantly undertracked in all areas even Japan.  :D
