Forums - Gaming - Invisible PS3 SSFIV costumes explained

Further proof that running online services and bandwidth isn't cheap.

Part of the reason I don't mind paying for Live. Aside from making the 360 worthwhile for MS, It clearly benefits developers.

Capcom seem to be the only dev with this issue, and even then only with SSFIV.  Exception does not a rule make.

Capcom's the only one who's spoken up, and not even in an official capacity.  Plus this is a policy shift, it's only been about a year since Sony rewrote the rules on this... RE5 came out before the change actually, and no doubt it's online content plans were in the works well in advance of the change (or even the announcement of the change).  Notice how RE5 Gold sticks the DLC on disc for PS3, while the 360 rev gives you download vouchers?

Not paying for bandwidth is something that inherently benefits developers, there's really no arguing that.  And it's also something that all Sony's competitors (Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple) don't engage in, they're very much alone in this practice.  Probably because they're the only one who's online service runs in the red still...

I don't feel like searching for the article, but I believe Harmonix wasn't happy about having to pay for bandwidth either.

Publishers and developers have to cover the cost of bandwidth and online content on PSN. Not many have spoken out, but we can assume most aren't happy about shelling out the extra cash on PSN that Live covers.

I actually thought Sony might cover cost now that they have PSN Plus. Doesn't look like that's the case.

lol @ at the people complaining, do any of ya actually play SSFIV on PSN? I haven't bought the DLC costumes and I wont and I could care less about not being able to see the costumes that somebody else is wearing. How this is "pretty bad news for psn" is beyond me.

Well Sony is even richer and get money from PSN Plus. Maybe Sony are the ones being cheap?

Its not just about the DLC. Much of the discussion is about publishers having to pay bandwidth expenses period.

I do.

Me 2.

What is beyond me is how this is not bad news? It is bad news for people who care about the costumes, and there's nothing wrong with being annoyed at being unable to enjoy a feature you'd like to.

Then you should probably be directing some of that ire at Sony.  It's their actions directly that are denying you equal access.

Or else buy a 360 or 3DS and play SSF4 on that.  Or just pony up for the costumes on PSN.
