You know, Robo's Theme from Chrono Trigger sounds just like Never Gonna Give You Up. But that's 16-bit.

By far

My overall favorite 8Bit soundtrack is probably Compile's NES conversion of Legacy of the Wizard (aka: Dragon Slayer IV).  Yuzo Koshiro did the original, and it's really just fantastic all around.  Epic stuff.

My other fave NES soundtracks would be (in no order) Castlevania 1-3, Zelda I-II, FFI/III, DQIII-IV, Batman, MegaMan 2/3/5, Metroid, Kid Icarus, SMB2/DokiDoki Panic, Gimmick!, Powerblade, Journey to Silius, Lagrange Point, Shadowgate, The Univited, Shatterhand, Blast Master, Madara, Lifeforce, Ufouria, Goonies 2, Faxanadu, Crystalis, Conquest of the Crystal Place, Little Samson, Contra, Double Dragon II-III, Metal Storm, Mother, Kirby's Adventure, Guardian Legend and Ys I-III.  Also, seek out the JP version of FDS and VRC6 games... Zelda II and Castlevania III especially, they're AMAZING and far superior to the soundtracks we got here!

I never owned a NES myself so almost all of my 8-bit gaming was played on the Sega Game Gear. Here are some of my favs from childhood ^_^

This post is now a placeholder for Nintendogamer's love for Nintendo. Here it is:

Despite this being such a long time ago (18 years to be precise) I do remember a few things back. Back in 1992, I was on holiday and my brother brought his SNES with him, it was that time I first played a Nintendo system, and the first game I played on was Super Mario world, and I certainly loved every minute of it, I think that was the only game we had for the time being. It’s difficult to go into detail since this is 1992 we’re talking about, thus a long time ago. The next game SNES game I played must have bee The legend of Zelda: link to the past, 1992 or 1993 this was, Of course I loved every minute of it and I cried a few times since I couldn’t get the master sword ( I didn’t know I had to collect 3 pendants…. I was 4 what do you expect!) and another time when I died trying to defeated the boss at dungeon 3 in the dark world, I cried, funny I Know when I think back at it now. More games came along in my path such as F-zero, starwing, super Mario kart. I do remember my brother purchasing Super Metroid in 1994, and saw him play it looked so epic I wanted to play it badly but he didn’t let me, but in 1995 or 1996, I finally got the chance to play it and god did I enjoy it through out. I saw the intro to Super Metroid and saw Samus talking about her past and this is when I started to wonder, was there another Metroid game in the past.. and my brother told me it was “Metroid” on NES, and at that time I found out that SNES wasn’t Nintendo first console, I was 7 or 6 but you shouldn’t be queer about it. So yeah I first played Metroid on the GBA after unlocking it after completing Metroid Zero mission, this must have been in 2004 or 2005 but I will come to the GC days later. N64 is next. I first saw N64 in a ad and it was going for £99.99 at the time, and to me it sounded like a lot of money, but I obviously I was about 8 and couldn’t go out and buy one like that like I do nowadays. I went for a walk with my mother and when I came back home my brother was in the living room playing the N64 and I was like ‘what the hell let me have a go!’, I told him that he can borrow my SNES and I can play his N64 but of course I was excited at the time. Guess what game he was playing….that’s right it was Ocarina of time and I wanted a go but he said it would be too complicated, and I was like right ok…but he did let me play 1080. The next game I played was Golden eye 007, even thought I was like 7 years under-age haha! But I was a good player since I unlocked all the cheats . After I a while it did come to the time when I started playing Ocarina of time and it sort of changed my life ( well it was epic ). All this happened in the year 1997 – 1998. And about couple of months later my brother bought be Mario 64 since he knew I was a big fan of him, and it was another wow moment for me. I had friends coming over to my house every now and then and we all would sit down and have a blast on Mario kart 64, good times. Now after all the years I was unaware that Nintendo sales were declining each generation but I didn’t take much notice of sales back in the days, because mainly I was that young I was interested in figures and such. Anyway in the early 2000’s I heard a Nintendo console was coming out ( as time went I go more and more into Nintendo thus doing more research hence finding out new consoles release dates and such). I was exacting I tell you, really looking forward for buying the gamecube, I was reading a magazine reading a review of Luigi’s mansion knowing I will be able to play it the next day, the feeling was epic, I was 13 at the time. May 2rd 2002 around 11pm, ho ho how precise was that. After I found out about GC I saved up all my pennies, the price was like £190 then! The first games I got was Luigi’s mansion and universal studios ( yes I know I didn’t know it was a bad then, I didn’t read views like I do now hehe ). So Luigi’s Mansion was the very first Gamecube game that I clapped my eyes on and played and yes I did love it to bits, the feeling must off been like When I First played Mario galaxy. I had this habit of spending money on games once I had about £30 or £40, I felt like I HAD to buy a game, At one time I bought one game and regretted it, not that I didn’t like the game, just because I was broke. afterwards, but today I’m much more of a tight arse but maybe that’s because I’m just more sensible with my money now. My next game was Pikmin, never heard of the series before all until then I suddenly liked the looks of it, never had a clue who made it, Shigsy must have a gift of attracting people to his games despite them not knowing who made the game, epic. I was never aware that Gamecube was struggling against the PS2 and xbox but obviously I wasn’t obsessed back then. I then heard there was a Metroid game in the works and hoooraa I was looking forward to it, I couldn’t wait, I was very impressed to see it in FPS-like, but it was delayed from December to March 2003, then a a year later Metroid prime 2 was announced and I was like amazing, the first one was epic and It was nice to know I could have another one of those great moments when you start playing a game you’re going to love. I got a Gameboy colour one Christmas with links awakening, It was in 1999 I think and it was the 2nd “d Zelda game I played ever, Link to the past being the first one. I didn’t get much games form my GB colours but I did get super Mario bros deluxe which was the same as the NES version but with colours of course. Then was time went I got my self a GBA SP in April 2004 after I saw Metroid zero mission, I just had to get a SP after hearing about that since I loved super Metroid on SNES, When I got it I got another game with it before Metroid zero mission came out since I couldn’t wait, I got Scooby doo hehe but it was ok . As time passed more games were coming to GBA that interested me, such as remakes of SNES game like Super Mario world, Super Mario bros 3 and link to the past, I loved these games so much I had to buy them again for the SP, strange I know :L. in 2004, the DS was announced and by golly was I excited, Of course early designs looked very different to the final model one that was released in 2005. So the first game I got was the one that came bundled with the DS, Metroid prime hunters first hunt, it was a demo of Metroid prime hunters, so the first game I played on the DS was of course a Metroid game. I also got a another game shortly afterwards, and that was Mario 64 DS, I got since I loved the one on N64 so I had to buy the one on the DS, and of course it wasn’t exactly the same, it had other characters other than Mario. And finally as years went buy I stuck by Nintendo all the time and my interest never seem to have glanced at Playstation or Xbox at all and that is saying something. After I saw the declining sales of Nintendo systems through generations I of course wasn’t happy with their struggle, but as soon as Iwata-san the latest President of Nintendo stepped in, the declining sales of Nintendo were soon put to rest or killed should I say, and by golly was I happy. When I heard there was a new Nintendo console in the works after gamecube I was like wow sounds interesting, and the motion controls captured my eyes like it did to million upon millions of people. I saw a lot of specs at the Wii ( even though I thought they were going to keep the name “revolution” and black too instead of the standard White which the Wii was at the beginning). This was in the year 2006 by the way, my brother came home one night and said are you get the Wii? And I said “what”?, are you getting a Wii he asked again then I said “what is one of them” he said the new Nintendo console, oh this was before I knew it was called the Wii, I wasn’t entirely sure see. As more details came in I was excited of course and saw 20 games that will be available at launch, and not surprisingly, Twilight princess was the first game I got for the Wii when I got it about a month after release ( they were out of stock for a very long time, I got it January 11th 2007 about 2:13 PM), and yes I did have to pick up my jaw from the floor ( a new Zelda game what did you expect). Then as E3 turned up, I didn’t know what the showcase before but I did look at YouTube clips that people sent me. When Brawl was announced, Mario galaxy and Metroid prime 3: Corruption I was exacting I tell you. :D during this generation. When Mario galaxy came out I of course expected it to be good but never expected it to get such a handful of perfect scores, it was like other games were over shadowed by the quality of Galaxy, because many other games at the time had much lower score. I remember the day w hen I got it in 2007, man how has time flown. I was think there is still one Nintendo console I’ve never touched before, and that was the NES, I had to buy it since I’ve never played one before and I bought some cartridges since I loved the looks of them and size of them, massive I know haha. When the NES arrived I was like, wow I’ve never played one before and today is the day I will play the system I never knew about when I first played SNES back in 1992. I eventually got Metroid, Super Mario bros, super Mario bros 2 and super Mario bros 3. It was hilarious to play NES games on a Widescreen TV since they had those big fat ones in the 1980’s. I played it and had a great experience of how video games were in the olden days, and as soon as you press the power button oomph it came in just a blink of an eye where as newer systems take about 10 seconds to load up . Pretty much I’m up to the modern days now, eager to see how Wii Zelda will fare up at E3, will the trailer be as exiting as playing Link to the past for the first time? I hope so. We are in 2010 and Nintendo brings us joy! Few notes, Metroid on NES was god-hard until I got the screw attack. I’ve stuck by Nintendo throughout the generation and most likely will be for a long time to come. I hope you have enjoyed reading my brief essay of me and Nintendo.

Why are some of you guys posting 16-bit songs? I could post plenty of them too if I wanted to!

What do you think of all the SHMUP soundtracks I posted?

And yeah, I didn't post any SNES soundtracks for this reason.

You can never go wrong with anything that comes from Konami! Though the Nemesis ones were definitely better versions of the songs on MSX, probably 16-bit.

MSX isn't 16-bit...unless I misunderstood your comment??

Well they don't sound 8-bit that's what I'm saying, more like remixes or something. o_O

That or MSX had a better sound card!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

That's because the MSX had SCC/SCC sound cards which, as you can hear, enhances it pretty well. Now, if it were only the PSG sound, like the two Metal Gear 1 tracks that I posted, then it sounds close to NES music.
