you don't have to limit yourself to one thermometer , since you can link multiple levels to each others and they act like loading screens or screens

in short you can do as much as you want.

Would there be a limit on the chained levels?

I think I'll end up getting LBP2 for the MM levels but, hey, the more the merrier.

will it make world peace? no, will it cure cancer? no, will it have 256 online multiplayer? no
