Forums - Gaming - Brawl Delayed in PAL Regions

FreeTalkLive rocks! said:
Is anyone shocked the Europe gets games many games and most systems last? It is much harder and more expensive to program games for Europe for obvious reasons.

What obvious reasons? No, I’m afraid what you just stated was a load of bull. Moreover, it has already been established that a worldwide release can be done quite effortlessly by any major publisher.

Not that I care much myself. I've got plenty to play until Brawl gets here. It might even benefit the sales of the game. As a matter of principle though, this shouldn't be happening, and thus people have the right to be pissed about it.

Europe is made up of dozens of nations with different laws, regulation and various languages. Even when combined, these vast markets still only make the 3rd largest audience for some games.

Many companies struggle to meet their deadlines in America and Japan. This often leads to delays or games with bugs or flaws. If a company has to put a ton of energy into finishing or even almost finishing a game for a deadline in a more important market; then, it is not unreasonable for the game to be delayed in a less important region.

In other words, it is much more challenging for the average Japanese developer to release a game in Europe and there is often less reward. Unfortunately, because of the conditions in Europe, it hardly has any major game developers or publishers of its own. Hopefully, the European market will continue to mature and the various local laws and regulations will be reduced. If these happen, look for less delays in Europe.

And it's the largest market for the DS and Sony in general. Second largest for Wii and the 360 - and Microsoft doesn't screw us over. No excuse for Nintendo and Sony to do it, in other words.

Moreover, none of those things have anything to do with programming and development, which you said. It's an issue with localization, which *should* be done *simultaneously* with the American localization.

As for small Japanese developers, well, we aren't talking about them, are we? Not that the big Japanese publishers don't handle those things anyway...

WTF DID I DO WRONG THIS TIME *snif*

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

It shocks me nintendo still do this, I mean Sony arn't alot better nowadays (despite it being their best territory :S) but Microsoft seem to always cope fine. There really is no technical excuse for a 4 month delay, and I'm honestly not yet convinced it's definite, but it's quickly becoming a joke. I can understand maybe 1 month to translate it, but when Nintendo are employing 1 person to translate a game like MP3 into each language (4 employees for 4 languages) you just have to wonder what on Earth they're doing.

It's likely a business decision anyway. It's completely lost on me, I'm sure Europe is now a bigger market then Japan so why companies keep treating it as 3rd best is lost on me, but I guess I'll cope. There are plenty of other games to tide me over, provided they don't get delayed.

What's the timestamp for this news? I know Nintendo said that it maybe delayed then went back to say that it is not finalized. Did they announce a delay again?

Btw, the very source of this news is at: http://www.videogamer.com/news/06-12-2007-7051.html  Which is timestamped December 6, 2007.

You can see that this news was backtracked on December 7, 2007 at the same source: http://www.videogamer.com/news/07-12-2007-7058.html

In other words, this is really OLD news (rumor?) that have been debunked. I am pretty sure cause I was the one that give information on the debunking.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

You should be proud for being honest.  It seems that you are not the only one on this thread that does quite understand the business of videogames.  If it was an overall positive for Nintendo to do a worldwide release for Brawl, Nintendo would do so.  However, it is not good business and so Nintendo is not doing it.  Nintendo is trying to make as much money as possible and it knows more about how to do that with videogames than any other group of people in the world.
