I never said it was a necessity to drink.  I am just saying having a few beers (about 2-4) can be relaxing.  Light drinking helps me play a few games better (mainly FPS).  Drinking hasn't improved my life considerably but it has helped me meet new people, be less shy at parties where I hardly know anyone (I don't really party anymore except with friends), makes family events more fun, etc...  The key word is moderation like most people have stated.  In moderation it isn't that bad.

Beers that you should try would be Full Sail Pale Ale, ZiegenBock (only available in Texas), Warsteiner, Spaten Munich, Dos Equis, and most brands of Hefeweizen and Oktoberfest are good.  Basically it comes down to individual taste.  I prefer mainly ales but I can have semi dark beers here and there.  The cheaper the beer usually means the cheaper the taste.  Most good beers you have to pay a little more for.  However, price doesn't always mean quality but in most cases it does.

How does beer make you less shy? How does it make things more fun? Alcohol is just an useless product. And you say I should spend a lot of money on it. You must've been brainwashed by those evil alcohol copmanies.

Are you serious?

Alcohol lowers the inhibition level... and some other chemical stuff that I don't understand.

Here is the reason people drink alcohol:

Fun.

And I don't think I need to explain why alcohol can be fun. If you don't understand, then you're lost.

I know my limits, and have only rarely got close to them, I don't drink often and on the rare occasions I do I only have a few.

I can't stand beer or lager though, taste reminds me of vomit.... even shandy.

If I drink with the family with a meal or at Christmas or something, I might have a cider or two, or maybe a glass of wine.... If I go out with friends I might have one or two ciders followed by some mixers.

@ shappi_snake It applies to more than just wine. Beer is  also proven to have benefits. The only alcoholic beverages that dont really help are liqueurs(not to be confused with liquors like whiskey, and rum)  like Jägermeister, disaronno, southern comfort, and kahlua. They add a lot of sugar to those drinks.; which tends to defeat to the purpose of the benefits.

Sorry double post.......

well apparently, its part of my national identity?

click me.

i drink about 4 times a year, except summer 2009, when my slightly inebriated shenanigans were visible to all the vgc regulars. haaaaaa. am i ashamed? no.

all my friends go out at least every weekend, get competely rat-arsed regularly and are proud of themselves for it.

i dont like that. i dont like the taste of most alcohol, and i dont like being past the buzz stage. i dont like the thought of losing control so completely. i can sit with friends while they all drink, and be happy with my lemonade.

you can try to convince people that they shouldnt be doing what they're doing, but just remember its personal choice ;)  (you know what pisses me off? i worked in a bar and there is no law protecting me if i refuse to serve a pregnant lady alcohol. according to my manager, the company could be sued for discrimination. bullshit).

anyway, im suffering no ill health due to the very occasional drink i have, but when i am in the mood for it and i have a drink in the right setting, its all good.

(i never got into drinking when i was younger, not until i was 20. and there is a history of alcohol abuse in my family. but like i've said, im not exactly a big fan.)

and i HATE wine. and beer. and whisky. edit: and most spirits. and alcopops.

Here are a few cons:

- Intoxication and alcohol poisoning are the most obvious. Shakespeare died from alchohol poisoning. When you're intoxication there are numerous things that can happen.

Holy shit I better start drinking more because that dude wrote some serious plays!

But seriously I drink beer because I like the taste.  I think I've tried somewhere between 250-300 beers over the past two years and by that I mean different kinds.  The feeling is good too but it's really not the point for me.

Really? When I tried beer once I thought it tasted like you'd expect urine to taste.

If you choose a piss-poor beverage like bud light or miller it'll taste like piss.  Just like when you eat McShits it tastes like a shitburger, but that doesn't mean that every burger is a turd sandwhich does it?

I dont drink for the resons stated in the OP. But I guess people drink because they have no self control and guess they will get some by drinking alchol? But wait doesn't alchohol make you loose self control? So it must be that they think it will help them socially? oh I dont know people are just dumb sometimes :)

They sure are :)

Confirmed, drinking is worse than rape kids!
