FFVIII was also pretty polarizing, as was MGS2 and The Wind Waker. The most polarizing games usually have a "return to form" response following immediately afterwards (ie: ALTTP, FFIX, MGS3, Twilight Princess).

Actually, both Zelda and Super Mario 2 were very loved at their time. The myth of them being hated was created by hardcore people who didn't like them as the others around the last 3 generations.

Hells naw. There were WARS on the playground over Zelda II, it was very much love / hate with gamers (ie: kids!) in the late 80s. I lived through it, I know! :P

Zelda PH and ST, I find them highly disappointing and among my least favourite Zelda games (still very good however). However one of my cousins claims they are his 2 favourite games ever made.

I actually prepared to write FF13, but I actually do believe Chrono Cross is one of the most polarizing games of all time, since, as jarrod will agree with me, it is one of the best games of all time, although there were many pepole who really didn't like it.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

lol. Chrono Cross IS a good one though, it was so divisive it killed the series! :P

I liked it though tbh. It was a mess, but a hot mess.
