Forums - PC - Making a PC- Recommendations

So I have $300 saved up and i am thinking about earning $400 in the next 3 months. So I have $700 to spend. I have STarcraft and it looks like sh*it on my current PC. I have everything on low and it still has a hard time reaching 15 fps. Thankfully my laptop can run t on 40 fps on low. Anyways I want to be able to run it on ultra along with some other games like the witcher, Battlefield, crysis 2, etc.

Here are the parts I am thinking about purchasing-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106325

So what do you guys think? This will be the first PC I will build but I saw some youtube vids and honestly it does not look too hard. Should I replace any part? Get a better graphics card or cpu? Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:

So far I am on track for making a PC by March. Anyways I am stuck between two options. I want to either buy the HD 5850 or 5770. I will be likely playing on a 22 inch screen most of the time and sometimes i will switch to a 32 inch screen. I wiould want to play on the highest resolution. Whcih card do you think will be better for me? Also I decided to hold off on the hard drive and just recyle my current hard drive to save $50.

Another Update- Finalizing My Build-

So here are the parts I decided to buy for the computer-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136216

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129024&cm_re=antec_sonata-_-11-129-024-_-Product

The total is coming out to be $672.94.

I decided to not get a hard drive yet and I'll just recycle my current hard drive. So does anyone have any opinions about the parts I am going to buy? SHould I change anything? Is the power supply good enough? In the future I might want to buy another 6870 so will my motherboard support that? Thanks in advance?

My suggestion would be to wait for Newegg (or another site) to have a combo-deal that was most of what you wanted and then add the 1 or 2 components it is missing to make a system ... Quite often you will get a pretty decent PC for $350 to $500 and all you will need to add is a $100 graphics card to get decent performance on most new games.

I would swap these in to make the build more future proof

tho some of the more experienced people could probably give you some better advice at the very least this will give the thread a bump, having said that I think my suggestions would improve the build especially the mobo and the RAM and the quad core will probably be better in the long run as games start utilising multiple cores more.

thanks for the suggestions!

So you want to by all your pieces from this website? I don't really know US prices for hardware (I live in Europe) but usually I do get my pieces from different places to find the best combo (with possibly increasing the delivery costs I know, it's usually a long and difficult research...). If we base everything on this website:

-CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103675

I would recommend you buy at least a phenom II. Athlon it's not good enough for your games (especially if you wanna play crysis and battlefield 2), and it's better to go for the 4 cores because as zarx explained more and more games start using multiple cores (even though starcraft doesn't).

 -Case

You don't need to spend so much on a case!! I undersand the need of having it cool but really, it's better to spend your money on something else! The recommendation of zarx is good, I remember there was a extremely good case for less than 40$ but I don't remember it rite now, I'll have a look.

-RAM

You absolutely need to buy DDR3 RAM!!  So yeah here again zarx had a good suggestion I think

-DVD drive

Do you really need to have a Blue Ray drive? What do you need it for? Is going to be connected to your tv and used for watching movies as well? Because I wouldn't spend so much personally, nowadays you can just go with digital contents and buy a DVD drive for less than 20$, this is more than fine imo (unless you have particular needs): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136216

-Graphic Card

You do need a gtx 470 for running starcraft 2 on ultra at 1080p with 4x AA but  I would rather get a ati 6870 (40$ less for same gaming performance) or a 6950 (the one I have, for 40$ more, and it's more powerful than a 470)) because they are of a newer generation and are more futureproof imo. But that also goes down to personal preference. But remember that the 6950 can reach the same performance of a 6970 with a few changes: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Radeon-HD-6950-to-HD-6970-Flashing-Tools-download-2658.html

Motherboard (the one suggested by zarx) and Power Supply are a good. Asus is my favourite for matherboards (and it's the connection to all your pieces, so if it's not good, doesn't matter how good all your other pieces are!!) while I usually go for Corsair for power supply, but they don't sell what I'm looking for in the website (even though Antec is a good brand).

I'll take another look later at the website and see if I can give you my suggested build for 700$.

alright thanks for the suggestions!

I should probably note that main reasons for the mobo I suggested just for future note, first and foremost is the fact that the Miro ATX board you picked had it's SATA ports (used for HDD and other disk drives) parallel to the PCI-E slot for your graphics card and when you install a large GPU like the GTX 470 it would most likely block off some if not all of these ports which could be very annoying trust me i know from experience lol, additionally  it supports DDR3 RAM which is cheaper and faster than DDR2 these days, so win win.

Why not a case like this with power supply? Its cheaper than buying both seperately even if it isn't bling.

Tease.

Just whatever you do, do get a decent PSU.
