Forums - Sales Discussion - World Wide Up 360 over 1million!

Juma, just a correction, Mass Effect is NOT more popular than God of War or Uncharted (and since we're talking about 360 appeal, PC sales wouldn't count). Fable isn't either. Only Halo and Gears count.

I'd say, the sole driver is XBL, honestly. Halo and to an extent Gears, coupled with the overall library and more recently Kinect, are further X360 pushers.

But why it sells more than PS3, it's a dead horse, but just to end it already:

- Headstart, and cheaper price.

- Sony tarnished their overall brand in the US, and really bad.

Yep, XBL is a huge reason why 360 is doing so well. Even today PSN still pales in comparison to the XBL community (not to mention PSN still lacks a ton of features that XBL has had forever).

OMG, I totally forgot the XBL argument, thats another advantage over PS3

I didn't know XBL was an American thing only. The 360 is more popular in America because Sony has destroyed their brand here, and it's not just gaming.

America was always Sony's weakest region. I think I read that the N64 outsold PS1 in its first few months here.

But America is not the PS3 weakest region and never was.

I'd say this was less factor going in for PS3, and more a result that the system's helped contribute to with it's (at best) lukewarm performance.  The PlayStation brand was unrivaled before PS3 (though PSP put a definite chink in the armor after 2005), and the platform was the expected generational champion by nearly everyone in the industry (publishers, developers, press, analysts, retail, etc, etc).  Then Wii happened and, against all odds, consumers against decided differently...

I think the appeal of Xbox is the tooth fairies and magic dust...must be, since it can't be because people actually prefer it.  It will be interesting to see who's "Year" 2011 will be?

If you mean the expectations behind the PS3 also let it down, then yeah, that's true.

I can answer that question: Gamers.

Sorry for you GT5! Forza in his 60th week make's your debut nothing important...

MS must have no faith in the Forza franchise. Can't go one Xmas without bundling the hell out of it.

In this case I think the bundling is out of fate. MS is building a large userbase around this franchise, probably losing money, but for a bigger purpose. Masses are usually slow to realize which is the better product and now that GT5 is out and reviewed the miracle might finally happen (not now though but with Forza 4 (and if FM4 is as brilliant as FM3)).

I think very people know this. I've only known it since those days because I have an unc that worked within the company in the mid 90s. They were usually one step behind a competitor or two here (marketshare).

Nowadays, I wouldn't say the Sony nor PlayStation brands are tarnished, but they're certainly damaged. Like any brand though, they can bounce back with the right resources and business decisions.

Err... "Tarnished brand" and "damaged brand" mean pretty much the same thing :-/
