don't be to sure. California will legalize it next vote. When the money from it turns the economy around we will see states turning on there head to make it happen. When you got christains talking it up, wow.

I would hope they would legalize it.  I don't want to pay casual users' jail sentences.

I don't like pot myself and it wouldn't affect me at all since I won't be using it.  Quite a few of my friends do it though.

I don't smoke because of my job but I do see the upside and think it would take us right out of our economic slump in months. You know how many jobs it would creat.

Some things it shouldn't be done at and that would be work. I'm sure they could come up with test that can detect with in hours of use.  People do it either way, no matter if it's legal or not.

Happy Holidays everyone. I made my points.

I'm gonna go out of the usual crowd here and say this is terrible news. It really should stay illegal. Sure, it's not as bad as alcohol, but that doesn't make it right to just add more harmful stuff to life. I mean, the cons outweigh the pros. There will be more car crashes if it's legal. This is a fact because when people are high, their focus is obviously a lot worse, and thus will lead to more crashes. And even if it's illegal to smoke and drive, just like Drinking and Driving, people will still do it. How does this help my argument you may ask? People will smove and drive highly frequently; much more than nowadays since it's illegal. How many cases do you hear of MJ-induced accidents right now? Not nearly as much is Drinking problems. So by making it legal, you will just create a 2nd major accident causer, when it's really unnecissary to do such a thing.

Another thing is this will lead to more drugs being made legal. If this completely becomes legal, then people will get greedy and start demanding other drugs to be legal, since "this was made legal too". This will then lead to even worse drugs being made legal, which will thus ruin this country permanently.

Also, if you are around people who smoke MJ, you get a contact buzz, and what if I don't want to get high? I won't get to choose if I'm forced to be around a pot-smoker.

PS. No trolls or personal attacks. I want to have a clean discussion free of pointless attacks.

They said the same thing about calcohol. Look how the Prohibition turned out.

SO why not legalize it and take the power from the powerful brutal mexican mafia. What about cancer and people that can't eat. Relaxing stressed muscle's, helping sleeping desorder. I can go on and on about the positive side that doesn't include horrible side effects such as sleeping pills and others that can help you sleep but swell up your tongue and kill you in your sleep.

just watch tv, look at all the side effects from the drugs that marijuana can cure. you are really demonizing pot here.

Same people that will take tylenol with no problem, when it eats away your stomach and can cause damage to your liver and kidneys. But hey lets go after the potheads.

this was never about pot being bad but about hemp selling and taking over paper. lOOk it up.

Dude, read the thread, the guy is clearly pro-legalization.

Man the US will never beat Canada, we'll legalize pot first (hopefully)

To be honest as long as we tax the shit out of it and bring it under official branding and legal distribution I see nothing wrong with legalizing it. Sure it impedes the mind but alchohol does too and thats legal. Now the police just need a breathalizer device that can sense if you've smoked any cannobis lately (A device I bet already exists I just don't know of it).

Driving under the influence of any mind altering substance should remain illegal.

Also its funny that people talk about the Christian Right? I'm a Christian and a Conservative and I think we should legalize pot. So do many card carrying and elected conservatives (In Canada). Lastly why is everyone who is conservative automatically called the Christian right? Their are Athiest rights, Muslim Rights , Jewish Rights....etc....etc..

But I'm guessing this guy is a Christian and he's right wing so people will call him Christian Right. But its not like Christians are the only right wingers out their.

The most vehement right wingers are Christian. Plus, Conservatism generally has strong ties to religion, as religion is a traditional institution, and Conservatives generally want to protect such institutions, them hating change and progress and all, while cherishing some idyllic past that never really existed.

Yes we should legalize and TAX the shit out of it.

Pot smokers dont deserve to go to jail, but since they have less of a positive influence on society we counter balance this with taking all their damn money.

Not sure where your getting this from.  In college, a lot of the smartest people I knew smoked pot.  It seemed very popular among physicists.  I think it was because theoretical physics require quite a bit of imagination to figure things out.  It's quite mind-bending to try and understand some of the complex theories in physics.

Weed doesn't actually make you think any deeper or imaginitive, it just makes you think dumb ideas are smart... try having a philosphy major have a conversation with a bunch of stoners and you'll see what i mean.

I would beg to differ one of the smartest guys I know studys physics and he is  is a huge pot head. If you expect a better arguement from a person that is under the influence that is foolish. Give these stoned dudes a chance to speak logically when sober and they could match a philosphy major as best as a non-philosphy major can

When did I say they couldn't?

Alright so I am at peace, but no smart man would say a person under the influence of any drug would be able to stand up in an intelligent conversation to a sober man. I just took your statement as suggesting some how that would be the case.

Yep, that's exactly what I was saying.  I was argueing against Whatever's suggestion that somehow weed makes you good at phyisics.

If anyone really did perform better under the use of a drug like Marijuana, there issues aren't thinking related but anxiety related or concentration related, which is another reason why it's important for it to be legal... because while useful in some situations, self medication is a DANGEROUS game.

I've had paranoid friends who've gone off the deep end becase of their self medication.

I have had friends do the same. I will leave this for now by saying that I have seen more people hurt by alcohol, yet it remains legal. So I know you agree for different reasons that marijuana should be legalized.  I just care about the issue so much because of the thousands of people that go to jail for MJ use and it is wrong. Tax dollars are wasted and imprisoning people helps no one. PEACE.

Couldn't agree more.  Though I am for the legalizing of all drugs, with more serious ones being regulated at special places as needed.  We all make choices that are seen as "disruptive" when viewed vs the collective, but unless they directly harm others they are exactly that.  Our choices.  It's nobodies buisness to judge them or try and limit them.

I have long thought about the legalization of all drugs and I do believe it is a person's righjt to do what they want with their own body. I don't believe that over drug use would rise because people recognize and are usually well educated on how bad drugs really be. I know there is currently large meth abuse even though there is a large campaign against the drug, but the propaganda does work. Currently MJ use is on the rise the highest it has been since 1984. At the same time alcohol and ciggerete usage is droppin g. Why? Because government propaganda has done a good job on educating the public on the dangers of these drugs. Marijuana use is on the rise thanks to the medical marijuana increase and people are realizing it is safer than alcohol.

I admit I had to walk away from this issue as I was drinking last night.

No it is already medicine in 15 states and the district of columbia so it is already taking money away from drug companies. Big business would probably quickly jump on the idea of legalizing the drug because there is tons capital to be gained from it.
