Rumor: Indie devs getting 3DS dev kits in January

December 22nd, 2010 Posted in 3DS, Rumors, Written by Valay

3DS development kits have been in the hands of numerous companies for quite some time now. However, indie developers have yet to obtain their own kits. On the bright side, it seems as though they won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on the system.

According to a “trusted source” close to Develop-Online, Nintendo will be handing out another round of development kits in early 2011 – more specifically, January. With that said, many independent and internal groups have started making titles for the handheld.

cool will be fun to see what they do

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I want to see what the likes of Gaijin and 2D Boy do with them

I'm guessing the result of these dev kits will be mainly for 3DSware

Make sure Nicalis gets one!

I love the idea of indy dev's getting their hands on the console. I bet we will see alot of 3DSWare titles coming not to long after launch. I look forward to seeing what fresh blood can come up with opposed to the major players.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a different approach from Nintendo, who until a year or two into this generation pretty much ignored the indies.

Indie or not, I don't care. Just give me good games on the cheap :)

It's a change for anyone... indie devs didn't get PSP, PS3 or even 360 kits/support until awhile into their lifecycles either.   3DS is the first major system I know of that has pre-launch support for indie devs coming.
