I don't see how it's so astonishing. Last year had the mega hits FFXIII and NSMB. This year, there are the lesser hits GT5 and DKCR.
I cant believe some people thought 3 million is a definite for DK and that GT5>FF13.. blows my mind

no one thought GT5 would outsell final fantasy, nobody.
I am not really disapointed at GT5, I am really curious how PS3 gamers buy games in Japan. It's the holiday seasons, and tons of people go shopping, and no PS3 games goes up in sales. Unless a new game comes out for , it's basicly, release and then goodbye.

Some thought it would have a bigger impact if not the same... not everybody of course. Same who thought DK was sure to sell like its predecessors.

pretty good Wii and ps3 sales since last year both had massive bumps due to big releases.
Those MHP3 sales are really monster sales. Best third week ever in Japan.

Both DS, PSP and somewhat Wii also showing great hw numbers. PS3 not so much.
I feel strange about the comments saying that Japan can't support next-gen home console because of Hi-cost. Because seems the developping cost doesn't scare so much the Japanese developper as they release more games on the PS3 than on Wii! If costs were really a so important factor, we should see more Wii love that it has actually by 3rd parties.
Also one big Japanese publisher will give strong support to the wii HD... Nintendo :p
But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.
DKCR is totally going to outsell GT5 in Japan. lol.
