| Darth Tigris said: Ok, after looking at both comparisons, I come to the same conclusion as the websites and the polls do: the 360 version looks better. BUT ... the differences are so slight and situational (sometimes the PS3 version looks better) that its basically NEGLIGIBLE. What's more disturbing is how much in denial so many of you hardcore PS3 fans (demo version, it still looks better to me, etc) are in this thread. Are you all really SO insecure that the differences seen here actually MATTER??? Good God this is one of the best games you will ever experience by way far and thanks to the formerly hated EA you actually will get to play it on your console of choice! BE HAPPY FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIVES!!!!!! /end mini rant |
Just so we're clear: I already have beaten ME1 and ME2 on the 360. My only issue with this is that, for one thing, IGN's video painted a different picture. That, and this is the ME3 engine we're talking about. It would be disappointing if the PS3 version still fell short.
Surely you can understand where I'm coming from?

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
just finished the demo and the ps3 version looks better then these screen-shots claim
lol they only compared screens from cut-scenes, not from actual gameplay.

But it DOESN'T all of the time. Sometimes it looks slightly better, sometime the 360 looks slightly better. But both look AMAZING. The systems handle graphics different so no game will look exactly the same.
The DF vid makes that all the more clear: http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/masseffect2-360-vs-ps3-faceoff?size=hd

I guess you're right...maybe I am just blowing it out of proportion.

There is no AA in ME games

You guys really can't tell the actual difference? The ME3 engine has better LIGHTING over the ME2 engine on consoles! =P I'm talking miles better, miles. Donot expect PS3 shaders to look better since UE3 is a multiplatform engine that favors the PC and 360 more in the end, but there is a huge optimization to how they are handling lighting and shadows in the new engine on consoles.

I can see that. But I'm talking about texture details. It doesn't matter anyways.

Eurogamer
BioWare is on the record in stating that the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 has enhanced visuals.
"One of the first things you're going to see is improved graphics," game producer Jesse Houston said during a recent BioWare podcast. "We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine."
It stands to reason that BioWare would want to make adjustments to the core engine for what is now a cross-platform project: this is, after all, an extensively retooled Unreal Engine 3. However, direct visual comparisons with the same scenes on the existing Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 2 suggest that not all of the changes are not for the better. There's a curious mixture of improvements, downgrades and swapped out effects.
