Forums - General - Do You Believe in Ghost?

I believe because I have had an experience. It's something you don't believe until it happens to you. I would say if you don't believe, please, please try to refute all of the experiences various people have had. It's just foolish to think otherwise. It's kind of like science is, I don't know, brainwashing you into being ignorant. Oh the irony.

apparently the store I work at is haunted, its in an  old building, 90 years old I think

I have had some strange stuff happened. never seen an appirition or anything but.  I have heard voices when the house was empty sometimes i feel that its directed at me other times not so much its never crystal clear but its def. talking, had my bed vibrate slightly late at night(no jokes please) once and had my computer play creepy ass music without me touching it(the verse of music i heard before slamming my laptop shut was "so you want to go to heaven" )still dont know what song it was, if anyone knows i would appreciate it.

-doesnt help that I have SERIOUSLY weird creepy dreams/

Yeah I believe Ghost exists, it was a fairly good film. Whoopi Goldberg was ace in it.

As for ghosts, no I do not believe they exist. I think there's always a rational explanation to alleged experiences with ghosts. For example, the human brain is overly cautious, we see faces when there are no faces, we always want to make sense of our environment in such a way that we are always prepared for danger.

An example of this phenomena is when you're lying in bed at night and a light, say from a street lamp outside, lights something up in such a way that it looks a bit human. In your mind you think it could be human, it's easy to interpret it that way, even though you actually know its a coat or something.

I also find it hard to believe that after thousands of years of humans having alleged experiences with ghosts we are no closer to explaining their nature. If people really did have experiences with ghosts we'd know a lot more about their existence.

But their appearances are entirely inconsistent (by now we should be able to predict when they appear), we don't know what they're made of, we have no objective way to test for them, we have no way of falsifying evidence for or against their existence, etc.

If we had really been experiencing ghosts for thousands of years, then we would be much closer to understanding the nature of ghosts.

All this to me suggests that ghosts are a construct of human imagination.

Ok, fair enough for most of your post, that's your view on the matter. But why the random attack on science at the end?

One night when I was home alone, I thought I heard blankets fall out of the closet (or clothes or something) but I was too nervous to check.  I got uo the next morning, and there was nothing out of place.  I guess it was a really neat ghost.  Little things like that make me a little on edge.  I usually forget about it once a day or two has passed.

I've had plenty of "experiences" that were just illusions of some sort or other and became apparent by simply being calm and double-checking. Of course you can't do that if you're scared as hell. By no means can I say that's the case in whatever alleged experience, but I'm sure it accounts for many of those. Anyway it makes you think, if your first instinct has been proving wrong a few times, should you really trust it that much if eventually isn't?

Also, I believe this has a lot to do with predisposition. The more you believe the more likely you are to see/hear/feel it or think you did so, and the more that happens, the more you'll believe.

Because I wanted to stir up shit.

But seriously, it is pretty ironic in the case of some people.

yep, people with a strong will and strong ties to the world energy doesn't dissipate when they die, atleast not all of it

I guess so. I believe in some kind of life energy, or "soul" if you want, and ghosts would basically be leftovers.

Being a "science-guy" I think ghosts needs to have some sort of connection to science though.
