Sony shouldn't buy them, it'd be harder for SE to sell games and a lot of games that might bomb (yeah, that's right Gun Loco, FF14, and both Just Causes) will hurt Sony. SE would want to release the well selling Eidios games like Batman multi-platform, It'd do more harm than good for both.

Serves him right for trying to Westernize the company, when most Western publishers are pissing money away (seriously, Activision would be bleeding away so much cash right now if it weren't for Blizzard) while Japanese companies generally are making healthy profits. |
Actvision is still bleeding even with Blizzard...

SE is a sinkhole for money now, they have nothing but their name to go on, they haven't made a good console game in over a decade, Sony would never buy it, Sony is far more interested in new talent (media molecule) when it comes to acquiring studios Sony is the best of the three by far, new talent is cheaper and far more worth it, spending ridicules amounts of money to buy basically just a brand name that sells to alot of people is more MSes thing to be honest, and if MS did buy SE I really don't think I'd care, probably be a similar result to MS buying RARE, which is now a pale shadow of what it once was
What Square Enix is right now actually wouldn't be a bad buy and would complement their video division and give them an entry point into manga. Plus Square has a lot of publishing areas in action figures and such so Square Enix as a whole wouldn't be a bad buy for Sony. As far as just buying their game division, it'd for the most part be useless and there's a reason why Square has nothing but Arkham City getting released in the foreseeable future that will be worth buying (Maybe Final Fantasy VS XIII and Dragon Quest X [which hasn't even been unveiled]). Though whatever console has Dragon Quest automatically sells bucket loads in Japan so keeping Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest on a Sony platform would guarantee lots of sales in Japan for Sony. Though I personally think Sony should sell their shares and be done with Square-Enix and let them die a horrible death.

Here is an interesting measure of what company/companies you like in the console wars:
* If I were to say Sony buy SquareEnix, and their stuff then ends up becoming Sony exclusives, would you get all excited at this prospect? This means no longer do you get SquareEnix stuff on the DS. It also means no XBox SquareEnix games either. If this excites you, would it be fair to say that you are a Sony fan?
* Let's say Nintendo bought SquareEnix, did the same, and return SquareEnix back to the SNES days. Would it be fair to say that you are a Nintendo fan?
* Now, let's say Microsofty did the same thing, and you HATE the idea? Would it be fair to say you hate Microsoft or are a fan of Nintendo or Sony? Conversely, it is likely a XBox fan would be jumping up and down over the prospects.
The answer to this question, to me, would seem to indicate who you like in the console wars. As for Apple doing this, well... all I can think of here is that universal hatred from all quarters would break out on here.
Ok, so for the sake of "Balance in the Force" would it be preferable they merge with another third-party software maker, so that none of the above company's consoles go without Square Enix software?
As for me, and my partisan ways, I hope this news means that they are willing to have Taito stuff appear in Game Room on the XBox 360/Windows platforms. Square Enix owns Taito.
I don't think any first party hardware manufacturers should purchase Square-Enix. I'd love to see Square-Enix cease to exist. I'd also love to see other companies buy their IP's.. for example, Sony to buy Final Fantasy, Lara Croft/Tomb Raider and Parasite Eve, Nintendo to buy Dragon Quest, Disney Interactive to buy Kingdom Hearts, Microsoft to buy Deus Ex, THQ to buy Batman: Arkham _____, etc.
Pixel Art can be fun.

Likewise I'd love to see SCE cease to exist and other companies buy their IPs, MS buying Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, Gran Turismo, Nintendo buying LBP, ModNation Racers, Ratchet, Jak, Sly, EA buying Motorstorm, MLB The Show, Heavy Rain, Activision buying Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Square Enix buying "ICO" games, Demon's Souls, Konami buying Syphon Filter, etc
Another scenario I wouldn't mind seeing is MS EDD ceasing to exist and other companies buying their IPs, Activision buying Halo, EA buying Fable and Jade Empire, Nintendo buying Rareware, Kinect and Viva Pinata, Sony buying Forza, PGR and Alan Wake, etc
The main thing Square Enix needs to realize is that gamers like japanese style games so making games more western is a horrid idea. If its a japanese franchise, let it be a japanese franchise. If its a western style game or franchise, leave it being western. No need to change it. Wada is just being an idiot and not realizing this.

everyone is overreacting big time, they reduced the net income, meaning they are still making a profit, something that can't be said of many companies these days.
